  1. Before the Romans, no the Greeks did not have anything like gladiators.

    However, under Roman rule, Greek cities did hold gladiatorial games. Yet, they seem not to have been anywhere near as popular as in the Western half of the Roman Empire, and they never really caught on. According to Libanius, a Greek citizen of Rome who lived in Antioch, the Eastern (Greek speaking) cities loved animal hunts, which in the West took place right before gladiatorial fights, where people would kill exotic animals, or exotic animals would kill eachother.


  2. yes, the olympics, but instead of offering to the people and the gods, it only offered to the gods, by a peaceful means (but boxing - KO the other person and you win) but mainly it was for worshiping the gods

  3. No the gladiatorial games started with the Etruscans. The Greeks had the Olympics to help train for war.
