It appeared for the longest, the believers just screamed "the debate is over".

  1. You wrote: "Is that why many scienctist are changing their minds, with the new data coming in?"

Such a claim, if you expect anyone to take it seriously, requires evidence. Since you provided none, the reasonable conclusion is that you have none.  If you can name legitimate climate scientists who once accepted AGW, and now says it's not correct, I'd love to hear their names. Since you claim "many" fit that bill, you should have no problem listing 10 - 20 of them.

  2. They tried to stop the debate.  Still it is politically incorrect for politicians not to mention Global Warming.  The war is still raging.  Unfortunately these people have some powerful financial interest to push forward.  They will not die so easily.

The US corn subsidy on Ethanol is a perfect example. Everyone knows it is a horrible idea, and that it has significant negative consequences for everyone in the world, but not one major politician will come out and say it needs to go.

Ethanol is not an efficient fuel for a typical automobile.  The compression ratio is not high enough.  The only reason the price seems close to gasoline is the federal and state subsidy.

Texas will pay a biofuel producer 20cents per gallon for the first 20million gallons produced for the first 10 years each year.

Add on top of that the Federal subsidies (there is not just one).

Again add on the 54 cent import tax on Brazilian Ethanol - made from sugarcane [which is 8 times more efficient in producing ethanol] - starting to get the picture.

You have Al Gore taking 30 minutes on Meet the Press trying to re-ignite the Global Warming Train 7/20/2008.  He does a poor job of trying to convince everyone living in a 10,000 sq.ft. home is environmentally friendly, and that he now flies Southwest - except on special occasion - when he has to take the private jet.

Be cognizant - a number of high profile politicians supported the legislation to enact Global Warming Agenda.  Those people - live by their name, and will begrudgingly admit they made an error.

It will be years before they are willing to be quiet, or admit they were wrong.

The information battle is still raging.

  3. Something like 1 in 35,000 people with at least a bachelors degree in biology don't believe in macroevolution. But if you were to listen to Ben Stein or the 700 club or your basic conversation at the local coffee shop you'll find that it sounds like there is a raging debate going on about evolution. There's not. Neither is there a raging debate going on about GW.

  4. No, they won it.

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

    http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/a...

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_...

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/fu...

EVERY major scientific organization has issued an official statement that this is real, and mostly caused by us.  The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.

  5. There still needs to be comparible archeological studies.  As well as review of previous records to get a glimpse on how the sun actually works.   But, the addition of an extra accelerant to global warming is not a defeat but an extra precaution on just how slow we are moving.   We still do not even have a clue as to how much more time is needed before we fall off natures axle of an overload of carbon emmissions.  The layers of glacier sediment have shown that everytime there is an increase in carbon emmissions by volcanoe or other means their has been an increase in GW. This is a perfect time to stop blaming others and start working together toward a common bond.

  6. Reasonable people see a claim "the debate is over" as an effort to force control.  It is a common claim of fascists and dictators.

So, certainly, agw's have lost the support of reasonable people.

Sadly, though, as long as there is money in promoting agw, promoters will continue to drone on.

  7. The debate was over as a scientific debate when politicians started debating it (people who have no working knowledge of science or climatology).  Al Gore and Rush have no business discussing climatology any more than they should be discussing relativistic quantum mechanics.
