  10. Nobody, except his doctors and people close to him will know. If you do a little research on AIDS, you will see that this question is not so outlandish. People don't die of AIDS, which destroys the immune system, allowing other diseases to take over. Many people who have AIDS die of pneumonia...because their immune systems are weak.

    While we don't know and it honestly doesn't matter...a great comedian has passed away, those of you who are trying to answer this question should learn a little more about AIDS. When people hide from this disease and pretend like it doesn't exist...it only makes it worse for preventing it's spead. RIP Bernie

  11. I had pneumonia when I was young but not infected with HIV. Pneumonia may be caused by bacteria, viruses,parasites, and fungi. There are many types of virus that may cause pneumonia ranging from simplex (common cold) to influenza viruses. The guy had sarcoidosis which will require taking daily dose of prednisone or other steriods to suppress his immune system.

    Thus, this makes it more probable for opportunist infections to overcome him due to suppressed immune system.

  14. This is not about black or white. I want to say that up front.

    The deal is this: it is highly, highly rare for someone age 50 to die of pneumonia.

    It is highly likely that a 50 year old who died of pneumonia died because their immune system was already seriously compromised.

    The leading cause of immune system breakdown is HIV/AIDS.

    The other possibility is that he had Hep-C.

    These are very reasonable assumptions to make, but the probable fact is we will never know the truth one way or the other. In response to previous comments: yes, I would still say this 100 percent (verbatim actually) if it was a white guy. Any race I would say this.

  15. It's possible, but unlikely. Sarcoidosis is a chronic inflammatory condition, that most often affects the lungs. But it can affect other body systems as well. The basic treatment for sarcoidosis is oral steroids. No, not the ones that Barry Bonds used. Steroids like Prednisone or otherwise, that people use for inflammatory arthritis, even asthma. If he was on chronic steroids for sarcoidosis, that would also leave his immune system weakened. Steroids suppress our normal immune systems. In that case, he would be susceptible to an infection like pneumonia, and it would be more difficult for him to fight the infection. I say all of this as a physician with experience in the field.   16. to the previous answerer "Carissa" she was asking if he had aids because he died of pneumonia, and ppl that have weak immune systems (i.e a.i.d.s patients) usually die from complications...so quit profiling black people.... but personally im not sure!.... there could have been other complications... but i know where your comming from!

    That's the most ridiculous, absurd thing I've ever heard.  This question has NOTHING to do with Bernie Mac being black.  They say that when ANYONE dies of pneumonia, because *most* people's immune systems are able to overcome pneumonia, unless their immune systems are compromised, and ONE possible reason that someones immune system might be compromised is AIDS.  AIDS, by the way, doesn't discriminate based on skin color.  

    I'll bet there are at least 20 other questions on this forum asking if Jim Henson (who also passed away from complications due to pneumonia) died of AIDS and not only was he WHITE, he was also married with children.  

    Seriously.  Chill out!

The reason a lot people think that when a black man dies early in life is not because its a black man but because a lot of black men live a life that's called living on the dl or living on the down low and all u white girls that are so in to black man better find out about more about it it means they don't consider themselves g*y just because they like have s*x with men some times and they don't tell anybody about that's why so many afro american men get aids more then white men 10 to 1 higher I won't even date a girl if she tells me she had s*x with black men for that reason becarful out there.
