Five days ago I got a feeling and the pain is STILL BAD. It is a hot/cold pain and I have to take painkillers to kill it. Does anyone think that the dentist hit a nerve?

  1. no, if it was a big deep filling, it can take a few days for it to stop being sensitive.  we tell our patients that, give it a few days, if it is not better go back, did the xray show anything at the nerve?  you might need a root canal, we sometimes try to fill teeth, but sometimes it does not work and the decay is too much and we end up doing root canal.  i can not tell you if that is your case as i did not see your xray.  call them back if it continues after a few more days.

  2. you probably need a root canal, usually when the hot cold pain is described its a nerve infection

  3. If you have a tooth that is effected by hot and cold you could have a nerve that is dying. It would be a little unusual for the denist to hit a nerve--but I suppose not impossible. They can't always tell what causes a nerve to die. sometimes a tooth can be traumatized and take years before it dies--and sometimes it dies right away. If you bumped your tooth recently it could have triggered the nerve to die. If so you will probably have to have a root canal and a crown.
