We thought we were getting $1200 for married filing jointly but only got $600.Something about tax liability being lower than their limit.Seems to me they didn't tell us about this.I'm about sick of this secretive gov't.

  1. Yes.  I got my full $600.  The notification they sent you before sending your check outlined all the reasons why you wouldn't get the full amount.

You shouldn't really be complaining, however.  That's $600 of free money that you didn't have before.  Our government's not perfect, but they didn't HAVE to give every taxpayer any money at all.  Be grateful that you got it!

  2. Secretive?  Did you read the letter you got in February or March that explained how the amount would be calculated?  Or use the calculator on the IRS website, or read the info on that site on how the amount is figured?  They told you, you just chose not to listen.

  3. Every news article *I* saw said that the range for a married couple was $600 UP TO $1200.  The same is true of the IRS website.

You are not alone if failing to grasp that $1200 was only if you paid that much in tax.  Since your tax bill was less than $600, you actually got more than that back.
