  1. Actually 1964 was the last year that dimes and quarters had any silver in them. Half dollars were 40% silver from 1965 thru 1970 and then they went to the copper-nickel composition also.

    Prior to 1964 all dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollars were 90% silver.


  2. In Canada, the change to no silver happened in late 1967

  3. The US started clad coinage in 1965.  Some silver coins were made as late as Feb. 1966, but the law called for them to be dated 1964 so they could be easily distinguished.    

    All silver was removed in 1971.

  4. 1963 was the last year that the mint used silver in dimes and quarters.  I believe that half dollars continued for some time thereafter. but currently contain no silver.  These coins are now clad in copper.
