Question:

Did the local, state or federal governments of the USA show a deliberate disregard of blacks during Katrina?

Did they specifically and consciously ignore black people because they didn't care about them? Some people go even further and say that the government wanted to see them die.

  1. All levels of govt, from local to federal, mismanaged the situation.

Because of where Katrina hit, it just happened to be in an area dominated by African-Americans, and therefore, many people feel that it was a racial thing.

I just think it was flat out mishandled all the way around, and had nothing to do with race.

If it would have been an all white area, it would still have been mishandled.

  2. I'm Canadian but it certainly looked like the state and fed gov't didn't care to help those who were less fortunate and helpless. This is the way I saw it.

  3. yea.. sounds fun.. nah but really i love black people they're all awesome!! if the government really did do it out of racism.. why are they're still black people??

  4. Contrary to current popular opinion, it is not the government's job to make sure people use their own common sense during a catastrophe.  The people in New Orleans were warned that Katrina was coming.  I had a friend living there during Katrina.  When he heard the warning, he packed a bag and left town.  It was the intelligent thing to do.  He also said that most of those people could have left at any time rather than sitting in the squalor waiting for someone to "take care of me".  You notice that the TV reporters were able to get to the scene?  That's because the road was open.

  5. Not exactly but it is clear some people like Society's Secret don't understand. Hurricane Katrina caused far more damage than the MidWest storms. It was the most expensive atlantic hurricane

Society's Secret:if that's true than nothing is racial about this. That means there was no anti-white or anti-black about this

  6. I don't believe that for a minute, but the State failed these people greatly.  FEMA failed these people or the state did not call them fast enough.  I saw a lot of cold hearted people in the state who should have been pulling together to save the people.  Their own people were looting their neighbors stores.  It was a horrible sight in Louisiana.

I can tell you one thing and that is Christians from all over the USA are still helping the folks in Louisiana rebuild their homes.  There is still a great need in Louisiana and Mississippi because of Hurricane Katrina.

There are not enough really good people in this world that look out for their brothers and sisters.

Are we our brother's keeper?   Yes, we are.  If we don't love one another, this is a horrible world to live in.

  7. Most of the people pissing and moaning about how they weren't taken care of when Katrina hit have nobody to blame but themselves. These are people who were and still were on welfare and have been for years. They expect the government to take care of them without having to lift a finger. And when the government wasn't there right away they act like victims. Pathetic. It's not like Katrina snuck up on them. They were told days before it made landfall that it was going to be bad. There was even a mandatory evacuation, but many people made the decision to stay.  Now let's think about this; you are living in city right beside the ocean that is largely built below sea level, a strong hurricane is headed your way, what the h**l do think is going to happen? Then there's "but the poor folks didn't have cars or buses to get out of town with" argument. They had legs didn't they? When faced with an impending catastrophe you do what it takes to get yourself to safety, they could've just hoofed it the 10 miles or so to higher ground that would not end up underwater should the levees break. I'm not saying that the government/FEMA didn't mess up, they did. But many of the people who complained have no sense of self-reliance.

  8. No.  They received no less and no more attention than the millions of poor midwest towns affected by tornadoes and flooding repeatedly over the past few decades have received.  For example, recall the floodings that just occured in the midwest......you aren't still hearing about them, there were no gatherings of famous idiots to raise money for them, they were no pathetic cries of "We're victims!"  The ones that chose not to listen to the government evacuation orders did not then choose to blame the government when they weren't rescued soon enough.  There are no mentally challenged mayors now begging citizens to come back to Vanilla cities. These same folks also pay a much higher percentage of taxes than the majority of New Orleans folks did.  Also recall that neighboring white towns affected by Katrina weren't nearly as publicized.  Coincidence?

Unlike what media-preached propaganda has brainwashed the gullible to believe, white folks were not put up in hotels with any higher proportion than other ethnicities....perhaps you saw white people paying for their own hotels, and then assumed that which made blacks victims?  I'd love to see the "evidence" that backs that garbage up...I'm sure some trendy little victim artist like the infant Spike Lee can pull it out of their rear.  Do people really believe that c**p?  I have a bridge to sell....I just need some victim propaganda to help me push it.....can someone make up some c**p for me real quick?  I'm sure everyone will believe it, so no worries about actually providing credible garbage......

Um...what does that have to do with black, white, or purple?   Did someone lead you to believe only black people lived in New Orleans?  And what difference does $10M vs. $1B make to someone with a $100,000 house living in a town with a $5M budget? Oh yeah....guess what dude?  It meant more because people in the midwest tended to OWN their homes, while a considerably higher portion in New Orleans rented.  Meaning...yeah...you guessed it!  Who really lost more?  Don't call me out with your "I don't get it" c**p because I don't agree with victimology.  Mind your business and answer the question.

See, that didn't hurt a bit did it?  Next time, try not to overlook the fact that I addressed the impact of Katrina *as relevant to the question* by bringing up the "white" towns of the Gulf outside of New Orleans.  Thus...you had no *reasonable* cause to address me with your flawed assumptions of my understanding.
