Question:

Did the pit lane order change in Canada?

For the Canadian GP I'm sure it looked like the McLarens stoped at the enterance to the pit lane and the Feraris towards the exit. But I thought for all the other races it was the other way around (Ferraris at enterance, McLarens at exit). Am I right about this?

If yes, why did it change for this race?

*(no comments about the incident in the pit lane as it' irrelevant to the question and I don't care)

  1. To me it looked like McLaren were in the fifth pit box... But I'm not sure why Ferrari were at the exit of the pit lane........

  2. Booboo is correct, in that the "first" and "last" garages in the pitlane can be either nearest the entrance or nearest the exit, with most of the modern circuits all having the same configuration and Montreal now being an exception to the rule in being the other way around.

    What Paul M is referring to is a specific question of how to interpret McLaren's punishment for the Stepneygate scandal last year, and it doesn't have anything to do with why Ferrari were nearest to the pit exit in Canada.

  3. Some pit lanes are simply "the other way around". It depends on the layout of the paddock behind the pits as to which garages have the most space. With so many modern circuits all designed the same way on the calendar nowadays there are fewer with the big garages at the far end, but there are still some.

  4. Remember- The team who won the last championship get to choose which pit box they get; and how far they stop down the garage.

    There are not exactly any benefits to stopping at either end;

    but if you stop at the last garage; you're able to leave the pits without using the rev limiter.

  5. yes it changed two races ago:

  6. You're right! I have no idea, maybe the pit boxes are larger towards the exit, so Ferrari had those, or it was deemed Mclaren were receiving an advantage, as there is no need to use the lane limiter on exiting that pit box, interesting, I look forward to see what happens at the French GP.
