Although he didnt publicly proclaim as being vegetarian, he practised vegetarianism and was against killing of animals for food.

He preferred strict vegetarian diet, like dates, nuts, milk, cucumber etc. May be he didnt proclaim vegetarianism, is because in those days it was hard to get such food in the desert. But with the present day technology, we can get anything anywhere, and with scieintific evidence that vegetarian food is better than non vegetarian food and lacks nothing, infact it has fibre and other good stuff which the latter lacks, WHY NOT BECOME VEGETARIAN?

  1. Mohamed also force married a 12 year old girl. Not something we should emulate I bet. And many of his followers all ate meat in his presence.

He can't claim to be a vegetarian because the term or concept has not been defined back in the 12th century. Neither did he forbid the eating of meat itself, just a few specific ones and after ritualized butchering is followed.

Edible plants are actually more convenient to have when travelling in deserts than farm animals that have to compete with humans for water and other foods. But when they reach a settlement, animals, especially lmb was the mnain food of choice for honoreds guests.Cacti are edible and so are palm and palm fruits. There also dates and olive trees which grow on rocky/sandy soil. But poisonous snakes and scorpions are not edible or if they were not palatable.

The scientific evidence does not point out to vegetarian food being better. Any unbiased scientific study will tell you that a well balanced omnivorous diet is as healthy as any. Even the ADA points out to a healthy diet with lean meats including fish. But specifically states that starchy vegetable foods should be limited or avoided.

By the way, as a whole, omnivores eat more vegetables and fruits than vegetarians. That's why they get all the benefits of plants foods PLUS benefits of animal based foods.

    Ramadan and vegetarianism in Islam

According to scholars the Prophet Mohammed, although not a vegetarian, did prefer to eat vegetarian foods and had a great love and compassion for animals. His favourite foods consisted of yogurt with butter or nuts, cucumbers with dates, pomegranates, grapes and figs. He was known to have quoted: "Where there is an abundance of vegetables, a host of angels will descend on that place."

This is from the link below. On a great many levels meat is not very good, spiritually as well as physically and environmentally. The movement to vegitarian ways has something important to offer everyone. You can only become a better person to consider what you eat.

  3. You need the correct balance of meat and veggies, fruits and whole grains to sustain a health life style. Each one of those food groups has vitamins that are necessary for the human body. ex for meets fish, chicken, beef, when cooked correctly and not fried they are healthy. as are raw vegtabales better for you then cooked ones.
