Did the republican potential nominee make the right decision?

John McCain needs what Kinky Friedman calls "a checkup from the neck up."

In choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate, he is not thinking "outside the box," as some have said. More like out of his mind.

Palin a first-term governor of a state with more reindeer than people, will have to put on a few pounds just to be a lightweight. Her personal story is impressive: former fisherman, mother of five. But that hardly qualifies her to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

For a man who is 72 years old and has had four bouts with cancer to have chosen someone so completely unqualified to become president is shockingly irresponsible. Suddenly, McCain's age and health become central issues in the campaign, as does his judgment.

In choosing this featherweight, McCain passed over Tom Ridge, a decorated combat hero, a Cabinet secretary and the former two-term governor of the large, complex state of Pennsylvania

He passed over Mitt Romney, who ran a big state, Massachusetts; a big company, Bain Capital; and a big event, the Olympics.

He passed over Kay Bailey Hutchison, the Texas senator who is knowledgeable about the military, good on television and -- obviously -- a woman.

He passed over Joe Lieberman, his best friend in the Senate and fellow Iraq Kool-Aid drinker.

He passed over former congressman, trade negotiator and budget director Rob Portman.

  1. Yes he did.

Judging from the thousands of questions you have posted under this name alone in support of Obama, I sincerely hope that you are being paid for your dedication, and tireless service to the Obama campaign.

  2. i really hope women are not stupid about this just for the fact a woman could be vp... *ok girls lets vote for McCain and palin even though they dont think we women should get equal pay as men* god ladies be smart get equal pay go obama/biden . from a oif war vet

  3. I agree with an earlier poster that they should have chosen Ron Paul.

The problem is that the GOP base doesn't much like McCain so the idea that Palin would be bad to 'take over' from McCain is a nonstarter.  We'd prefer her.  Greatly.  Whether she is attractive to cross over voters, you'd know better than I.

  4. well this pretty much sums up why they should of chose ron paul

  5. Sarah Palin has secured Obama the Presidency and that Bob Barr will get some pretty good wins this election year.

It's like McCain has turned on the Republican party with his VP pick.

He must be still upset about that 2000 loss.

  6. Xavier M stole the words right out of my mouth.

    Well said.

  7. They drill in Alaska, and the state keep the profits (remember the pipe line?) who in-turn use it in place of sales tax, and state income tax...wait...they take profits and spread them around to all....it's that the communist finance system?

This helps McCain's DRILL DRILL DRILL mind frame.

I am old enough to remember when that started, and remember how long it took to start making money. So I'm not impressed

She's a woman, a ploy to lure Hillary's supporters over. Classic republican cheap trick. I'm not impressed

She thinks the bible belongs in PUBLIC schools and has said more than once she think it's a history book of facts...talking donkeys, talking bushes, giants, dragons, and satyrs and all. This tell me she is not mentally stable.

McCain has 7 houses, and has a household income beyond what 95% of us has ever seen. he has lived with the silver spoon since birth, with both grand daddy, and daddy being big time heros. He's not had to work for anything.

this tells me he's out of touch with people like me.

Any choice they made would have been a bad one!

I think the whole republican camp is stupid, they couldn't buy my vote!

  8. All good points. I want to add a few more. He was too caught up in the "women who wanted Hilary" hype, and thought picking a woman was a way for him to pick up votes.  Also, he has a habit of surrounding himself with younger beautiful women. He was married to a model, was a known womanizer while married, then divorced and married a younger rich beauty queen all within a 2 month period.  It may not have been all political. It's allthose aircrafts he'scrashed. They have done something to his brain.

That being said, she is very liked in her state with an 80% approval rating.  She is young and puts a pretty face on the ticket.  She squashes doubt from the more hard core republicans and the evangelicals who have had issues with McCain, which I am sure he thinks will unitethe party.  She has less years of experience, which is bad, but that means she has less baggage as wellm which is good for him.  Let's face it.  Arnold was voted in as Governor with NO experience.

I wanted to add that perhaps it is that they both support nepotism. His throughout his naval career, if you want to call it a career, and hers for as governor firing Monegan, who wouldn't fire Mike Wooten, who was in a custody dispute with her sister.

Edit: Now that new things have cometo light maybe she doesn't have less baggage. I have doubts if her last child was hers or her daughter's.  Think about it.  For anyonewho has had children, you are more prone to pregnancy within 6 months of giving birth because of your hormone levels. With all the secrecy and strange goings on around the birth, like her not looking like she was pregnant until after her 6th month when she finally announced it to her staff(unlikely for a 5th child),giving her speech in Texas after her water broke, and flying all the way back to Alaska before giving birth(what motherof a known child with down syndrome would takethat chance) , the fact that her daughter is pregnant(again?)so soon after the birth, I wouldn't be surprised if the other baby wasn't her son but her grandson. I would look to see if the daughter doesn't "go into preterm labor" because she really isn't 5 months along, but is more like 3 or 4 which is after Sarah's son's birth.  Guess we will have to wait and see.

  9. He chose the person that would help get him elected. The Democrat party is 15% larger than the GOP this year. The GOP needs Democrat votes to win.

I like Palin. She has stood up against big oil and bucked her own party.

Sounds like the credentials for a moderate Democrat, other than her pro-life stand.

Since there are not moderate democrats on the ticket this year, and McCain is also moderate, this Hillary supporter is voting McCain/Palin this year.

  10. She is a liar as well!

She was FOR the "bridge to nowhere" until her voters changed her mind. And now she is being investigated for misuse of her office (sound familiar)?

The Bush's have apponted 4 US Supreme Court Justices, and 7 of the 9 are Republican. They are 1 vote away from overturning Roe v Wade, and you can bet that will be their litmus test for anyone they chose if we have the misfortune of them getting elected.

She is even against abortions in cases of rape and incest!

What I don't get is WHY do they want women to have children that they are so unwilling to help?

Barack Obama has a total of 12 years experience in government, both state and federal.

    Bush had 6

    Reagan had 8.

    Carter had 10 in Georgia.

    Nixon and Kennedy had 12!

And you really think Obama has less experience than a mayor of a town of 7,000 people, and less than 2 years as governor of a state 1/4 the population of Newark? And she is already being investigated for misusing her office!

"??? she has more executive experience than Obama"

You need a math  lesson whoever said that she has more experience than Obama! And compare his running mate! Not close!

McCain will be the worst thing that ever happened to women!!

  11. ??? she has more executive experience than Obama.

She took on big oil and won, she took on her corrupt party and won, she balanced a budget, negotiated a natural gas pipeline and made billions for her state... all things Obama talks about but has no experience with.  she's the real deal not a tool that can only speak with a script and teleprompter.

  12. Kinky Friedman is a kook who wishes he WAS Maverick McCain..Kinky is a joke in Texas not to mention he smells nasty from those cigars he smokes all the time..

You just don't get that McCain and Palin have beaten Obama in the "change" game.

Obama is still talking about the change game. Looks to me like Obama is more of a cheerleader than the quarterback.
