  1. There is the authentic Macedonia of Greece (the historical Macedonia) and there is a modern Balkan republic of (Slavic/Albanian)Macedonia.

    Two completely different things!

The authentic Macedonia of Greece is a well known Greek region and it was the birth place of Alexander the Great. On the other hand the modern republic of (Slavic/Albanian)Macedonia was part of Yugoslavia and it has a history of 15 years. There are many people who confuse authentic Macedonia of Greece with the new balkan state.

But the government of (Salvic/Albanian)Macedonia has clearly stated the difference.  The first President of  (Slavic/Albanian)Macedonia, Kiro Gligorov said: “We are Slavs who came to this area in the sixth century ... we are not descendants of the ancient Macedonians" (Foreign Information Service Daily Report, Eastern Europe, February 26, 1992, p. 35).  Also, Mr Gligorov declared: "We are Macedonians but we are Slav Macedonians. That's who we are! We have no connection to Alexander the Greek and his Macedonia… Our ancestors came here in the 5th and 6th century" (Toronto Star, March 15, 1992).

So the answer to your question is NO, they did not do the right thing.

  2. I not going to answer your question because I think its pointless, but I will ask you two questions.

    1. If my country rename it selfs to Macedonia in 1991 what was our name when we were part in Yugoslavia?

2.What is Yugoslavia and where is on map?

If you think with clear head you will find the answer for your question by yourself.

  3. First of all as I can see you are new user (3 august 2008) 1 level, soo I got your point (provocating, nothing more)!!!

To be hounest I have never heard that somebody claimed that Alexander the great was Yugoslavian? Funny and apsurd:)

If you have any proves of this statement...please for your own sake show it!

Macedonia is indepented country since 1991 and has nothing to do with Greece and greek history!

Soo my dear friend wake up, it's 21 century, even the "birds in the woods" knows the differences between Macedonia and Greece!

Go educate yourself and come back!

    Greetings from Macedonia
