Things can be partly genuine and partly publicity stunt.

I recall seeing one time that one of the princes had spent months overseas somewhere volunteering with some charity: it has a positive spin for sure and the press secretary-type people will be sure to make use of that, but I'm also sure he did some truly good work while he was there. Each of the princes has probably done a lot more volunteer work than most people (partly because they are, lucky for them, rich enough that they can afford the time).
