  1. Yes they did big chunky metal ones-not to much different from the large metal ones you sometimes see these days.

  2. Yes. My parents couldn't afford the $1100.00 so I suffered till I was an adult. I paid 3600 for my 32 year old when he was 12 and now am paying 6800 for my youngest.

  3. Hello, actually dental braces have been around since the mid 1930's....The early ones was rather crude and made of Gold...Later when good dental plastics arrived some DDS created braces with either Gold or plastic or a combination of both. Then dental wire became available and braces were created out of the metal wire soldered to metal straps (bands) that wrapped around the teeth...Some teeth were banded and had hooks on them to attach rubber bands to much like is used today. Now however there are a variety of brace materials and instead of having to wrap a metal band around the teeth...today most braces are made of a composite material cemented to the tooth's surface in a manner that allows rubber bands to be attached at pivotal points.....Also there are other types that fit over the teeth like a mouth guard and are designed to move the teeth. Those appliances are worn for a period of time until the teeth shift as directed and once they stop moving the appliance is replaced with another one that has been created to continue the desired movement..

    Have a great day.

  4. Yes. They were full metal bands that went all the way around the teeth, each tooth. Not the bonded brackets that are used today. they were a pain in the *** to keep clean and many had tons of cavities when they were taken off.Oh, and no fun colors for the elastics, either.Just the plain old white ones.

  5. Yes, those huge aluminum ones that used to cut up gums and lips, the term "metal mouth" was born from them...it's so much more streamlined today..my sister had invisaligh, plastic, invisible and removable when she ate...unbelievable.

  6. yes they were usually a single metal wire band on a plastic plate.inUK

  7. yup. my dad had them when he was a kid. and lemme tell you....it looks more like the dentist stuck a barbed wire fence in his mouth than braces. I thought mine looked bad, but now i'm starting to think they're pretty glamorous hahahah.

  8. Yes, but we didn't have brackets and colored elastics.  We had bands on all of the teeth, front and back. They looked just like the molar bands used now.
