  1. I personally think Tiger would have won this.  He would have torn up #17 all 4 days.  He has the ability to hit the ball low....very low.  If you recall, he has that stinger 3 wood that he would have hit 95% of the teeshots.  He would have been fine with this course and I'd imagine he would have been even or a couple shots better.  He was unreal in the last British that he won because he has found out that those courses are all about staying out of trouble and away from the bunkers.  He will be a frontrunner in many many Opens to come.

Hats of to Padraig though.  He played incredible this week, and deserved this win, however Norman winning would have made my day!  Padraig's 1-under round of 69 today was the product of a true champion and a lot of heart and determination.  Congrats Paddy!

  2. Tiger wouldn't have won it had he been there anyway. His record over the last 4 years has been poor at the Brittish Open. When he played the courses well he played smart and placed his shots but lately he's tried to use his power to win but it hasn't worked.

The American raitings may have been low due to his absence but I can assure you Europe was switched onto it as was Oz due to Norman. Harrington was outstanding for a number of reasons:

    1. Only Irishman to win multiple majors

    2. Had a wrist injury

    3. Came from 1 behind after 9 holes

the most impressive of all though was that he used to be a choker.....you'd lose count before last year of his 2nd place finishes but to have stuck at it shows his skill, class and determination.

The burning q is that is he the man to take over from Tiger.....don't know, we'll just see what happens at the P.G.A major!

  3. Sh*t, no!

  4. no

  5. Of course the worlds number 1 golfer is going to be missed at a major but come Sunday Tiger was well forgotten as the pairing of Greg Norman and Padraig Harrington was great to watch especially Harringtons 2nd to the par 5 17th. I doubt Tiger would have won had he been in the field last week.

  6. Yes, at least I did!  This British Open was something Tiger could have easily won.  The conditions were similar to the the 2000 British Open at St. Andrews where Tiger won.  It was blustery and Tiger's "stinger" 2-iron would have been the best shot  Nobody executes the stinger better than Tiger.

So had Tiger played the Open this year, I would strongly think that he would have won it EVEN PAR or at most -2 under PAR.

Oh, BTW, what were the TV ratings of the Open vs. the Masters and the US Open?

  7. He wouldn't have missed all those 6 footers and would have won by 6 strokes...the trophy needs an asterisk

  8. So Tiger wasn't there. Big deal. He was there last year at Carnoustie and came where? That's right...12th.

Put simply, the man can't play in bad weather on a Links course. Nice weather, target golf...yes, he's the best. But the Open isn't about that. It's old school, hardcore golf. He can't do it. Harrington can. Deal with it.

    EDIT

Sainty is not a joke. The last few Opens there have had the fairways cut VERY wide, and the weather has been glorious. Stick him in c**p weather there, and Woods would sink.

Even better...play the Open on the New, rather than the Old. The New course at Sainty is FAR harder than the Old.

  9. It would have been if woods had been there. But by Saturday it did seem to matter

  10. Didn't miss him one bit.
