  1. its sad but there is no alternative really...it's a shame that there wasn't a massive island just made for every homeless or unwanted horse where we could send them to live out their life....we'd call it horse island!

  2. omg no way!!! i didnt know tht!!! that is awful! dude, i think theres too many pple!!!! not horses! tht is some sick ****.

  3. Yes I have heard about it...it's very sad.  My understanding is that the animals are starving and rescues are full, so it is the only viable plan they could come up with.

  4. i havent herd of it but that SHOULD be like so illeagel no horsey people who try do that kind of stuff just drive me nuts they should just leave them were they are  all the people planning it should think how would i like it if people took my whole family and killed them..... this is how mad i am not saying it should happen they should just take the peoples family and chop ther heads of in front of them killing all the wild horses is wrong it is one of the things that make amercia america it wouild be like getting ride of the presidents and haveing a dector

  5. Mel and Mdoolittle have it right.  They are certainly not going to kill "every one of them"..what on earth would be the purpose of that?

Here's a link to the real story:

    http://www.2news.tv/news/local/22835359....

(Though I object to the first quote in the second line of the article - ""They're quiet. They're sweet. They just want to be your friend," Amidon said." - get real moron, like we really need mustangs romanticized any more than they already are.)

In a nutshell, the BLM can't afford to take care of all the mustangs they have in captivity.  The entire US is experiencing hay shortages, especially in the areas where the mustangs are.  People are adopting less of them, too, for various reasons.  The BLM can't and won't stop rounding mustangs up to leave them all running free in the wild, for reasons I don't wish to theroize about here.  So there you have it.

So far, there haven't been any other feasible solutions.

  6. omg i never heard about that but my family has.i love horses and that is so sad.they should try some other options except slaughter.

    hope this helps

  7. Yes. It's extremely sad. But they're doing it because the BLM can't get enough adpoters for their "rescued" mustangs. :'(

  8. Yes i heard about it.  Its sad...

  9. I haven't heard of that, no. Would they really do that!?

Some people can be so cruel and heartless :(

  10. well thats just stupid

  11. yeah i heard, and i totally disagree. i also heard that some people are trying to buy some of these horses, not as riding horses, but as HUMAN CONSUMPTION horses!! aghh this is totally wrong!

  12. YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWW RIDE EM COWBOY!!!!

  13. yeah. I heard its sad. but i think they could try putting them in rescues first and try giving them away to good homes.then again that might not work because of the horse economy. i dont think they thougth about it long enough its hard to get that kind of thing straight tho. they dont understand that if we over populated would they kill us? what harm are these beautiful creatures doing to anybody.im trying not to be opinionated

  14. Wow that's just really sad. I feel real sorry for those horses.

And no, I didn't know until now. Thanks for tellin us.

  15. ya i have mixed feelings about it tho, i mean its importiant to have poulation control since they have banned slaughter and because of the econamy ppl cant afford their horses ne more and they cant send them to slaughter houses anymore cuz they re banned so ppl dont know what to do with them and if the slaughter places just followed the rules and did it humanly then we wouldnt be in this mess but on the other hand its sad for any horse to die :(

  16. they aren't going to kill everyone of them...they are simply going to make it so that there aren't so many that they can't survive. There aren't enough people out there that are experienced enough to train a wild mustang. These are feral horses...like feral cats...not domesticated animals. There is a huge difference.

Not to mention that there are lots of domesticated horses that are starving and can't get good homes...and can actually be used for something...

Also, I remember when I lived  in Northern Nevada when they would round up the BLM mustangs and not take them to be adopted...most of them went to slaughter.

Do you realize that when BLM mustangs are rounded up for adoption that whatever doesn't get adopted use to go for slaughter? This is nothing new...only now they are going to euthanize them and throw their rotting bodies in a dump...before slaughterhouses closed...at least they could be used to feed zoo animals..

  17. Cruel? Heartless? Abandoning horses to fend for themsleves and get hit by cars isn't cruel and heartless?

Starving and neglecting horses isn't cruel and heartless?

I haven't read the story, but I do know that there is a place and need for slaughter. Injured, old, sick, crazy horses that are a danger need to go somewhere, and the rescues are quickly filling up because slaughter was banned. I know  because I rescue horses -the ones that can be safely rehabilitated, made healthy and rehomed.

Slaughter should not be banned, but made more humane. I hate to see any horse slaughtered, but it is a necesary evil. Now, people are selling unwanted horses for less than it cost to take them to a sale, and they are being shipped to Mexico, where conditions are much worse.

Now we have horses being let loose, sent to Mexico, or abandoned starving in fields with inadequate food. Which is worse - suffering or HUMANE slaughter? And what does it matter what happens to the carcass - fed to zoo animals or to humans who like horse steak? Let's be mature and realistic here. What is the difference between a horse and a cow? Both have feelings, but does it keep you from eating that Big Mac?

  18. i think you kinda misread the article, or didnt read it at all...

BLM will still be continuing with its regular adoptions... it is also going to consider changing adoption rules for what are typically unadoptable horses..they will be given up for "adoption/sale" with no stiplations... this is the gov'ts way of allowing people to ship these horses to mexico for slaughter since the U.S. slaughterhouses are now closed.. obviously the gov't cant ship the horses themselves...

they dont plan on rounding up all the horses, tho it may seem like that... the fact of life is that people would rather have steak on their table then lots of wild horses running free... by limiting the number of wild horses running wild, the gov't can allow more cattle to graze the land (for a fee)...it may even help us see a reduction in the meat prices (eventually)...

as far as abandoned horses (those not born feral), they need to be rounded up anyways...its very hard for domesticated horse to adapt to being feral and live a good life, and those that do most likely wont add a lot of good stuff to the gene pool of the feral horses... many of our domesticated horses have poor genetics that have led to poorly conditioned hooves, jaws/teeth that need regular floating, and poor bone structure... they really dont need to be breeding with the wild horses...
