That when football first started that the team that scored a touchdown

got the ball back. The defensive team had to kick the ball to the team that scored only to get the ball back when they are able to stop the offense

on downs.

Also a touchdown was only worth 3 points originally, then went to four,

and then 6pts as we know it today.

So this is why you see scores back in the old days like 202 -0 its because the defensive team was simply unable to get the ball back to its offense.

If you know any other weird rules back in the days when football started free tp post them, be serious please, this are some things that

football lovers would like to know.

Change of pace, in baseball , in order to get the runner out you originally had to throw and hit the base runner with the ball prior to him reaching base. Rough man!!

  1. The forward pass was originally prohibited. You had to run the ball rugby style. Also the touchdown was initially only a means to get a free field goal kick, and there were no downs. The ultimate goal was a field goal at the time. You had to actually take the ball from the offense to change the game.

You're referring to the 222-0 massacre of Cumberland by Georgia Tech, right? That was in 1916 and played under modern rules. Neither team had a first down, since all of Georiga Tech's scores were interceptions or special teams runs (every time they had the ball they scored), while Cumberland couldn't. Cumberland's biggest gain was 10 yards on a pass from 4th and 25.

  2. very true...i agree totally with ur stuff.

  3. Well, my answer doesn't have to do with rules.  But I thought it would provide a little football history.

The way Purdue University got their nickname as the Boilermakers was actually due to their football team.  When Purdue first started playing football they hardly ever won.  One year, Purdue in order build a winning football team Purdue went out and got guys from the railroad yards that worked on building trains and railroad tracks.  That football teams basically plowed over all of their competition.  They beat their competitors on brute force alone.  That is why Purdue's mascot is a train and is the largest mascot in the world.

  4. In football not only were the TD's 3 FG's were worth 5.

And when passing the QB had to be at least 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

When they first brought in the face mask penalty you could still tackle with it, you just weren't allowed to grab the face mask of players who didn't have the ball.
