i am having a baby girl in about 5 weeks. there is still stuff that we dont have for our baby, packnplay, a swing and playmat an exersaucer. my first thought is to get the cute lil pink stuff, but then i think...what if our next child is a boy? we wouldnt want to use pink everything with a boy, but lots of the toys that are blue or green would be ok for either boy or girl. all the babyclothes we have and things like towels and burpclothes and bedding stuff is all pretty girly. do you think i should get gender neutral things for the more expensive items so we could reuse them incase we have a boy later? oh yeah i am quiting my job after my maternity leave is up, so we will be taking a huge pay cut.

  1. Most of our stuff ended up being gender specific but it wasn't really because we made it a big deal to get it that way. I think your idea is a great one. I did get certain things in yellow or green because I like those colors and it is a good idea to get the expensive things in neutral colors too. Congratulations by the way! :)

  2. We got gender neutral stuff for this exact reason!

We did the whole nursery neutral, most toys neutral, most newborn clothes neutral too! It'll save a ton of money when we have kid #2!

  3. That is exactly what I did. I had a girl, but most things we bought are nuetral in case we had another baby and it was a boy.

  4. I think that is a wise Idea... Its your personal preference anyway.  The new baby won't know the difference.  We bought all neutral essentials and we ended up using them thru one boy and two girls.  Chocolate and Blue is really cute, trendy and non-gender specific...just for an idea if you want to buy new stuff.

    best wishes and congrats.

  5. Well, I didn't know what I was having because I chose not to find out. So, pretty much every thing I have is gender neutral.  Only after he was born was I able to get gender specific things. But in your case, if you want to be able to reuse the bigger, more expensive items, like the pack and play, swing, etc., I would have to suggest getting the gender neutral things if you want to be able to use it for a future child. Because like you said, you wouldn't want to put a baby boy in pink things.

    Congrats and Good Luck!!

  6. i think its better to buy gender neutral things on more expensive items. I would have done the same thing but everyone got us pink stuff at our baby shower (not complaining) but if II had purchased it i would have gotten other colors. babies really dont care , infact all those contrasting colors are very good for their development.

  7. That's what I did.  Most of the clothes and blankets and inexpensive items are girly, but the travel system, nursery decor bassinet and things are neutral incase I one day have a boy

  8. I had the same thought when I was pregnant with my fist child. I was pregnant with a girl and I really wanted to buy everything pink. However, when I started shopping for big items such as crib, car seat and high chair I started thinking like you 'what if the next one is a boy? After careful consideration we decided to go with light green and beige colors. The only thing that I purchased 'pink' was her stroller.
