Did you buy walking shoes for your children?

I never put shoes on my daughter until she was walking well and needed to have some on for protection. My friend has her son that is barely walking in these gigantic white walking shoes. They just look so heavy!

My daughter is almost 3 and walks very well.

  1. The white giant shoes are totally old school.  I guess some people still do that, my mother wanted me to purchase them for my kids.  I purchased the soft pliable leather shoes which I highly recommend until they get the walking down.

  2. My son is 10 months and he wears shoes occationally - he hates them...But I didnt buy the expensive walking shoes you are talking about, I got a cheap pair just for when we go out...

  3. Not me....until now, I really didn't know they had those. My daughter started walking around 9 months and she started off bear foot. It was cute, looked like a little hillbilly...,

  4. I bought walking sneakers for my daughter after she started to walk. She was fine barefoot, but if we needed to go out, I put soft sole shoes on her until she was walking really well, around 13 months old then we got her walking sneakers.

  5. No.  I was recently told by a physical therapist who specializes in balance and equalibrium that a child who is learning to walk needs to feel the floor in order for the brain to develop balance, etc.  I never put shoes on my children until they could walk well, and was glad I didn't when this therapist told me that!

  6. I remember those from the 70s! my mom put them on me! My son is 11 months old and he won't keep anything on his feet. that's ok now, but when he starts walking, he's going to need something... and winter!

  7. No, I never did until they needed them outdoors. My oldest had one foot turning in and we had to put her in high top type sneakers to force her foot to go straight, but once she got past that she only wore them outside. Even now they are 7 & 9 and I am 35 the first thing we do is take off our shoes and not for the sake of our carpet LOL I hate shoes and so do they.
