why is everything so taboo when you're pregnant?? Alcohol...yes, smoking....yes. But a Pepsi?? C'mon...I think it sometimes goes a little far.

  1. You don't have to cut it out just cut it back. Caffeine can stunt your baby's growth as well as activate learning disabilities such as ADD and ADHD. If you can prevent this, why wouldn't you?

  2. I dont think it goes to far, some times somethings have ingredients that are bad to the baby and its developedment.

    Caffeine for instance

chocolate...why would it b bad i mean every one likes chocolate right? but its not healthy for your baby

ask a doctor and do some research first

an if the experts dont want you doing something its probably got a cause, think of the baby first..its not good for you to be jumping around, just do what they say and lay around

  3. they just try to protect u and ur baby .. as they don't want to go through some is not bad but how much is the some and what we can take some of and what cann't. just try to avoid them as much as u can that what i think .. and i'm not a doctor

  4. I know! I drink a glass of pop a day and it helps with my upset stomach. I think my kid will be just fine.

I also cant get enough of Subway which they say don't eat because of the lunch meat. I asked my doctor and they said that that listerosis is so rare, the meds for it are all the way in DC!

  5. I think your best bet is to educate yourself. Find out exactly why some things are "taboo" and what the risks are. If you just count on what people "say" you'll get lots of mixed messages.

For example, the caffeine thing. Some people say "no caffeine at all, it's bad for the baby" and other people say "don't worry about it!". The research says that a couple of cups of coffee a day will not harm the baby. Aka, drink your caffeine in moderation! When I was in early pregnancy I usually had a can of Coke every day (which is less than a cup of coffee) because it was one of the few things that helped to settle my stomach so that I could eat!

Other stuff, like smoking and alcohol have really serious adverse effects for the baby.

So if there's something you really want that's "taboo", look it up and see what the real deal is about it! I've included a link to a site that has a list of some of the dos and don't of pregnancy and it's good because it gives the evidence behind them!

Good luck with your pregnancy! :-)

  6. I know! I had the same thing when i was pregnant. Crazy people telling me I could drink warm milk or purified water only.... Ridiculous. I ate seafood when i was pregnant, 8 years ago, and now I am told its dangerous to have shell fish...what? Well, my son is fine....

A nurse said to me in the hospital when I was worried, "I was 5 months gone once without knowing, and I had been acting like I normally would have, ..and my son is a fit and strapping lad"

    Just dont get drunk. :)

  7. The reason that the drs tell you to cut out things like Pepsi is because of the caffeine.  Caffeine can cause miscarriages but a Pepsi here and then after the first trimester is okay.

  8. I was much younger when I was pregnant and although I cut out things like artificial sweetener, I would still have an occasional soda.  I lived in Hawaii and drank a soda called "Hawaiian Sun."    It did not have caffeine, but it had tons of sugar.

Now, however, I don't drink soda at all.  I haven't had a soda in 4 years.  I'm much more health conscious than I was then.

  9. I personally cut out anything and everything that could cause harm to my baby...and yes that included caffeninated drinks...tuna...cold cuts...certain fishes...the list can go on...

  10. I agree.  I stay away from the biggies (ie, radiation in my workplace), but I refuse to give up life for 9 months.  If I want a soda, I have one.  Women have given birth to healthy babies for many years, and only recently have so many "rules" been laid down.

  11. I have some caffeine not a whole lot. I did have a cat with my first one. My husband had to clean the litter box. I eat lunch meat, hamburgers. I guess you just have to watch how much you have of those things.

  12. I cut out some stuff, but there is no way I could live without pop or iced tea. Sometimes I even go to Starbucks *gasp*. Most other things didn't really effect me. I don't like any seafood, my beef is always cooked extra well done, pregnant or not. Oh and I too have cats but I like the pregnancy excuse that makes my husband change the litter box. One of the highlights of my pregnancy actually. But that stupid lunchmeat thing is killing me. I am so badly craving a turkey sandwich and I just can't bring myself to eat one. I keep saying s***w it, but then never actually eat it. I know someone who actually had a stillborn baby at 35 weeks because she eat lunchmeat. Can't get that off my mind every time I go to eat a sandwich. So for now I guess I will stick to my cravings for pizza and other not so healthy foods.

  13. I do think some people tend to go overboard with it, but just as many people don't cut out enough of the things they should. I personally, eat lunch meat, have cats, and work out. But I dont drink and coffee, soda, or alcohol. I also don't smoke and I wont go near someone who is smoking. I think there are certain limits preggo women shouldnt cross, but there is a point where it is a little crazie! I know TONS of people who dyed their hair, drank cokes everyday, and ate fish all the time and their babys came out fine. Then I know some who smoked the whole time and their babies came out small and almost sick looking.

  14. Caffeine really isn't good for your baby. I mean if you have one every once in a while I'm sure that would be fine but I wouldn't do it all the time.

  15. You are not supposed to have caffine while you are pregnant.  Too much caffine is known to cause birth defects, low birth rate, and other reproductive problems.  Caffine has been linked to miscarriages.  I have included a link confirming this information.

  16. i cut back on caffeine.. i can't live without a yummy dr pepper once or twice a week =)

so have a d**n pepsi! lol

  17. It's okay to drink soda and stuff like that. My did that when she was pregnant w/me and she's had 3 kids so I think she knows what she's doing. She says just make sure you don't have soda and stuff like that all the time. Make sure to drink something healthy or something good everyday. But stuff like Pepsi and such are okie doke.

My mom stopped smoking when she was pregnant and my aunt stopped drinking only when she was pregnant.

  18. hun you don't want to feed your baby with chemicals you want a healthy baby don't you? then give him the best while he is in your tummy he'll have enough time to eat and drink all kind of stuff by the way i'm trying to give a good advise here no harm intended so stop down thumbing me

  19. I started drinking less soda, but do still have a coke here and there. They say you can have some caffeine, just not to go overboard.

  20. Large amounts of caffeine have been known to effect birth weight.  3 cups of coffee a day is a large amount of caffeine.

My OB told me that one soda a day was fine, I had to drink it because if I didn't I would get sick and either have sever morning sickness or run the risk of a sever headache.  I cut it out for weeks until I finally broke down and asked my OB if I could have 1/2 a soda a day, she laughed and said I could have a whole soda every day...I was very happy!

I also cut out lunch meat, hot dogs and blue and other soft cheeses for fear of listeria.

  21. I cut out the dangerous stuff.

But other things like Pepsi for example I just limit myself.  I didn't cut out completely.  Same way if I want a Whopper from Burger King.  I mean it is a hamburger.

I still live my life like I didn't before I was pregnant I just watch what I take it a little better.

  22. People go to far with things they cut out these days.  I know someone who wouldn't even drink one can of pop or eat any processed meats, like hot dogs or lunch meat.  What the heck?  People have done much worse things while pregnant and their kids came out just fine.  Caffeine isn't good for a baby, but in moderation will not do any harm!

  23. Pepsi is dangerous now?  Hmmm.  They may be saying that to reduce calories or they do not want you having the caffiene or for a diet, aspartame.

I thought now you could drink caffiene.  Oh well.

Me?  I would use my best judgement.  Definitely nix the smoking and drinking (although I had an occasional glass of wine...)  I drank a cup of coffee per day, not soda- but I do not normally drink them.

I would do what I thought was best, what I thought I could happily do and toss the rest if I was having another wise healthy pregnancy.  It should be enjoyable, not a torture session.  That comes later.  OK I was just joking (mostly) there.

  24. Some things are obvious, like smoking, drinking, and some foods.

Beyond that, I'm a firm believer that everything is okay in moderation, and both my kids were healthy. :)

As a matter of fact, for the last month or so of my first pregnancy, all I wanted was McDonalds cheeseburgers and rootbeer, and my daughter was fine. I, on the other hand, stayed fat.

  25. I cut most non healthy foods. But I also had a pepsi caffeine free now and then. I do love Pepsi. I found while being pregnant and while nursing that caffeine drinks made my baby and I on edge. I think when we are pregnant we become more sensitive to things. So to answer your ? Yes have a Pepsi just drink caffeine free.

  26. ....LOL pepsi,be safe than sorry

  27. I agree, which is why I say use your common sense as well as doctor recommendations when you are pregnant.  Your life doesn't stop just because you are pregnant.  But anything you consume is going to go through your baby as well, so you have to use a little more discretion when you are deciding what to eat, drink, and medicate yourself with.  Still, I think that a pregnant woman is a lot less delicate than we tend to think; physically, I think we can do more than we think we can and would probably benefit from a little more activity and a little less lying around and "gestating" as you said.

  28. Pepsi won't hurt you....I still drank my coffee and all sorts of stuff when i was pregnant. I had a healthy baby and only gained 14lbs too. I say if you crave it when you're pregnant you need it! lol and I still even did the normal stuff i did before like  gardening and painting our house and fishing. I always told everyone to just lay off I felt great when i was pregnant! Congrats!

  29. yeah i agree completely a lot of my friends have been prego and they aren't supposed to drink caffeine or eat chocolate but they do anyways..i think it's a little ridiculous

  30. I ate everything I normally did except the caffine and seafood intake I did decreace greatly!

  31. I have cut out a lot of things. Originally, I had cut out caffeine almost completely but now that I'm in my 3rd trimester I've been so tired that I've started drinking half-caffiene coffee in the mornings. It was either that or fall asleep on the couch and since I have a 4 year-old son that really isn't an option.

I know what you mean though. Some people think your life has to stop just because you're pregnant. Like it's a disability or something. It's really annoying. When I'm around my mother-in-law she won't let me lift anything that she thinks might be slightly heavy and she tells me how I shouldn't have caffiene if I happen to drink a coke.
