....then change your mind? At first I was going to work up until the bitter end now I'm counting down the days until I get get out of this place (11/08). Did you go back at all or did you go back then resign? I don't want to leave on a bad note, but I also don't want to come back to this place.

  1. I assume you're asking whether we continued working after finding out about the pregnancy.  Is that right?

Sounds like you don't have the best job situation - "can't wait to get out of this place" - that's too bad! I'm sorry you don't have a more positive environment.  however, unless your job is too demanding physically you probably should try to stick it out for a while. You're right about not wanting to leave on a bad note. If you resign, you need to leave on good terms so that your boss and/or co-workers will provide good references for you in the future.

I'm 21 weeks pregnant; I'm fortunate enough to have a job that I really like, as well as a great manager and co-workers. I'm a software engineer, so my job isn't physically demanding. I'm planning to work as long as I feel like it, although I plan to take a year off after my baby is born. What will determine when I leave is whether my placenta previa corrects itself or not.  If it does self-correct, I'll try to work at least until a few weeks before my due date.  If the placenta doesn't move, I may get stuck on bedrest (aaaaargh!) and have to leave sooner.

I want to be sure to leave on good terms so that when I get ready to return to work I have the option of returning to this same company if they happen to have a good position for me.  And if they don't have any openings, I'll have people who can provide good references and help me find a comparable job at another company.

hang in there, and try to make your resignation as smooth and positive as possible.

  2. this is my first pregnancy and i was planning on returning to work. I work at a day care but they will not allow me to have my baby enrolled there until he is eight weeks old. i planned on going back about 2 weeks after i gave birth if everything went smoothly w/my delivery. But now i must wait longer bc i do not want to leave my baby with anyone while i work, I do not think i could do it.

  3. I decided not to go back to work after having my daughter. I had many reasons, but basically it came down to the fact that I thought it was in her best interest to have a parent as her primary caregiver. I didn't say anything to my workplace until my maternity leave was almost over. I'm in Canada so we get a year so I went in and handed in my resignation a month before I was supposed to return. I thought it would be better to wait as long as possible just in case something happened that caused me to need that job. You know, I didn't want to "burn any bridges" or so to speak!

    Good luck with your decision!

  4. Sometimes you don't have a choice.  We need the money so I have to go back to work.  Wish i could stay at home but it is not possible with the current economy.
