Did you ever date someone just to tick off your parents?

My sister went through a phase of only dating Isrealis. She learnt Hebrew and threatened to convert, which obviously upset my dad since we are Catholic.

In High School I went out with a laid back Durbanite surfer a few years older than me who had dropped out of school. He had a penchant for the dramatic … he told my dad he was going to marry me even before he asked me out. It lasted as long as the December school holidays.

  1. No. That's childish.

  2. Oh no, never...

I only decided to dye my hair a bluish black and go totally goth on them. My mom prayed every night as she thought I was satanist.

  3. My parents hated my husband, he is British, and everything foreign to them, i dated him for 5 years, the last 2 years in secrecy, then I told them you either going to gain a son or lose me......and married him. Today they adore and love him as their own son. Parents can make mistakes.........

  4. I was very shy in school, and my parents were very glad when I actually had a date !

I'm sure they did not care who it was.

  5. Yes, to some degree. I mean, I liked him, but my parents did hate him.

He was my creepy blood-drinking I-think-I'm-a-vampire, violent, file-my-teeth-to-fangs, cutter, crazy, I-want-to-sir-you, lunatic boyfriend. I now identify him as my "what the h**l was I thinking" boyfriend...

  6. no i never did or will. i only date someone who i think is right for me, not to make someone mad.

  7. I was more inclined to listen to my parents' advice when I was a teenager, then realised that there was never going to be a Mr. Right for me as far as Mum was concerned.

  8. No, but i did date a guy with a motorbike that they did not approve of, they never like bikes

  9. Not deliberately, no, my mother however always told me to preferably date English girls and to ensure that I never married an Afrikaner, she would say that I could look at my Afrikaans father (English speaking) as motivation as why not to, I in any case usually found myself dating Afrikaans girls, they were always drawn to me (I'm not being arrogant, please excuse me if it comes across that way), I also ultimately married an Afrikaans girl whom my mother gets along with better than she does with me, I guess she was wrong although she will never admit it.

She now denies ever saying any of the above, I suppose she has to, with mine and my wife's bloodlines, my son, her grandson is 3/4's Afrikaner.

  10. No I haven't done it to tick them off intentionally. However, I did date someone whom they did not approve of mainly because he was from the other side of the rail way track. It lasted 6 months, my parents were glad when I broke it off and franking now I am too.

  11. No, but i've dated someone my mom didn't like, but not to p**s her off, I really liked him.
