Question:

Did you ever used to hope for the crossing gates to come down when approaching a railroad crossing?

I know this sounds weird but I remember as a child always wanting for trains to be coming, I would like to see the signals being activated and see the train whiz right through. Actually to this day I have to pretend to be mad when being held up by a train at a crossing.

  1. I like to roll the trains by, but for different reasons, these days.

In addition to the 'gangsta' graffiti on lots of cars, there is also some very fine art work.  It is even more impressive considering the medium; cans of spray paint.

But, the railroader in me still looks for defects, as well.

  2. Ha, that is great, I always enjoyed watching trains go by too, but then my Dad would be on them once in awhile, now it's me waving from the train. LOL

Nice to see someone who is not all pissed off and waving us the "you're number one" finger when we go by.

  3. man that is one good memory i think alot of ppl can share that one i use to love to watch them go by but now not so much we are all in a hurry so like i guess maybe i should slow down and enjoy them again.

  4. Our town had an abandoned line with abandoned crossings, and I loved to imagine them lighting up. Even today, I'd have to be in a real hurry to pass up a little impromptu foam. As long as I'm the first car in the line!

  5. Hey .. guess I'm weird too because I still love for that to happen .. and if I'm runnin' late ... I got a excuse why I was late babe! I'd have to agree with hoghead .. some of the art work on cars is awesome and pretty inventive! I remember growin' up I liked seein' all the different cars with names of other railroads and thinkin' wow that ones a long way from home!

  6. Always. When I was a kid, the most exciting sights I could see from our car were railroad crossing gates coming down ahead of us, and the top of a Ferris wheel sticking up above some buildings.

To this day, I don't mind waiting for trains, unless I'm an an extreme hurry, which isn't too often. Of course, the closer to the tracks I have to stop, (or get to stop) the better. There's something about trains that doesn't go away.

  7. i think all kids do that...i still like seeing them whiz by..

it's when they stop i start to get impatient

  8. I must admit that I am this way to and have been for as long as I can remember.  Usually a train never shows but it's always pretty neat when one does!

  9. I used to love watching trains go by as a kid. And even though I'm 26 now I have to admit I still love it. There's just something special about trains if you ask me. I live in Europe, but every time I'm in the US I spend a lot of time at train stations etc. I just love watching the trains.
