Did you feel that Heath Ledger's dark performance in The Dark Knight transcended to a premonition his Death?

I saw it last night and I was overwhelmed by a sense of his own personal tragedy - whatever it was. I watched him not playing a role but in a way which only he knew about, was LIVING the role.

There was something very curiously sad, tragic, consummated in his make up : the smeared paint, which to me seemed the last visible symbol of a defeated or wasted life.

His humour, though very witty was wrapped in a sorrow and sadness. As those who are at the end of their lives - and becomes a personal, private mockery they no longer care, should anyone know what it is about.

I once knew a girl in art school who dressed more bizarrely as she, another student and I shared for one year, space in a dorm. We knew she was suicidal because her father had told us, but even though we guarded her, her bizarreness of clothes and comments increased. If we'd ask as to how she was feeling her answers were poignant with something darkly hidden which Linda and I recognized but could do nothing about. Before the end of the second semester she took a great number of pills.That is how she was found. Not by Linda, nor I but by a friend of hers who would watch her when we could not.

That is what I saw in Heath Ledger when I watched his performance. I saw this tragic girl who was caught, had been caught in some deep personal tragedy for much of her life, but knew somehow she was at the verge of the end of it. But very alone, and privately.

Did anyone else notice this?

If yes, or no, would you comment upon what you perceived???

It has not left my head since last night, this perception based on something subterranean in Ledger's psyche, showing through his role.

I haven't seen it yet, but I have heard the stories of how dark, etc. of a role it was for Heath Ledger. I've read about his death, and I believed it to be an accident.  With that said, however, after reading your comments--I am sorry you had to experience this tragedy with your friend---I have always felt that we all have some psychic abilities.  Most people do not stop to recognize, or analyze them, as such though.  With your very deep description, of how you felt during the movie, and what you are still feeling now, I can't help but believe that you have just experienced a psychic insight.  Embrace it, and look for it throughout your life.  Do not fear it.  Usually, this "feeling" gives us the time to make better choices.  You will cherish it, as you understand it.

I don't know about all of that.... I think you saw a man that did a lot of research to play the best psychopath a "normal" person could play. He was after all just playing a part. A lot of people think he committed suicide but I don't think he would do that. He was so depressed because he couldn't see his daughter as much anymore. It was keeping him up at night so he starting taking sleeping pills.

I honestly think what we all watched was a very talented man playing a very difficult part.

it might have played  a big part because the role probably needed a lot from him due 2 its difficulty nd he played it so well u couldnt even tell it was him

No, I think it is BS. He was a pill popper who took too many one night

he was already working on another movie when he Overdosed

I know he was good looking and all, but making excuses for a bad habit is just ridiculous, if it was a rapper or athlete nobody would go to such far fetched lengths to justify the drug use
