What were you taught about the Civil War? I heard that it's taught differently as opposed to Northern schools. It's even refered to as the "War of Northern Aggression." Please share.

  1. Someone lied to you.

The history is taught according to the same history books you had.

My history teacher was from New Jersey, a Civil War and Texas history buff, and would try to edit Texas history, but our US history books were not an issue for him.

And I grew up in a Klan town, so if we had the same books, I would guess the rest of the southern towns did also.

  2. I'm from Central Florida and I was taught the North won the war.

  3. You need to read YOUR history more.  In the South at the time of the Civil War the Southerners referred to the war as the "War of Northern Aggression".  People from the South aren't slow and for you to honestly believe such foolishness and report that this is what you are being taught in the North...then exactly how smart and knowledgeable of anything are you and your counterparts?  If I'm not mistaken...it is in the East and North East where our country is failing the most as far as education below the 12th grade.  I think you have officially proved that this is not an argument.

  4. I really can't answer your question because, although Tucson was under the Confederate flag for a short time, it really doesn't qualify as part of the South you are referring to.

I just wanted to tell you to disregard the first two answers. It sounds like neither one of them read your question.

  5. Yes, and I'm a history major.  All of my cousins (8) have college degrees.

EDIT: I went to a school in an EXTREMELY nice neighborhood, as did the rest of my family.  The civil war was taught that we didn't even enter the civil war for black vs white reason, but to combine the north and south.  Later on, it changed to free the slaves. In the history books, the Southerners were the "bad" ones.
