Did you have any complications from sleeping on your back?

Okay so i've heard and read that sleeping on your back can cut off the blood circulation to your baby. Although there are some people who have said it's not something to worry about it because you would be warned if this happened and you would know to turn or that people worry too much about this.

I have trouble sleeping on my sides and often turn onto my back to sleep. I do it while i'm sleeping but I do it when i'm trying to fall asleep as well. I also lay on my back on the couch. I am 25 weeks pregnant. I noticed I can feel the baby kick more when I am laying on my back. I have been trying to stay on my sides but its so uncomfortable for me. I have lower back pain and it actually feels best for me to lay on my back but now im worried I could hurt my baby.

I wanted to know how many people have actually had complications, including cutting off the blood circulation from laying on your back while late in pregnancy?

  1. I cant sleep on my back as the blood flow does get "cut off" to my legs and makes me feel very sick. As for not getting the blood to baby im not sure. I had an ultrasound done and could only lay on my back for 5 mins or so and the doctor quickly told me to roll over as i went white and felt like i was going to faint and vomit.

Try sleeping on your side with a pillow in between your legs and also a pillow under your tummy plus a few extra pillows for your head. This is the only way i can sleep. I sleep with about 6 pillows now!

Congratulations and best of luck with everything

  2. when i was pregnant i slept whatever way i could. didn't have any problems. i think up until those last few weeks i was sleeping on my back. you can't sleep on your tummy cause it's just too big so there aren't that many options. when i did sleep on my back i'd keep my legs bent though because that was comfy. i never did pay attention to it though and i've never heard that this could be bad for you.

have you spoken to your midwife though? i'm sure she'll be able to help you.

  3. I was told it would cause problems for me when i was carrying my twins i was really big and when i lay on my back i found it hard to breathe so yes i would imagine it could cause problems for baby, but i couldn't even stay like it for 10 minutes so in the end i had to prop myself up so i could rest, some nights i would wake up in a panic because i couldn't breathe to find i had rolled on my back, In the end though my waist had got to 70inches so i was massive was glad in th end when the twins arrived safe and well ..

  4. i could only sleep on my back, and i was a monstrous 309lbs at my last weigh in, (I'm down to 274lbs, my son is 8weeks today).  it hurt to sleep on my side, i guess it just depends on u.  but it is a fact about the blood being cut off, so listen to what ur dr says.
