I'm 17 weeks tomorrow & my dr. gave me this little card & it says if you have headache that doesn't get better after taking tylenol after an hour. So, I called & I guess a nurse will get back to me,But I'm just wondering what there concern might be with headaches. ?? I've had my headache for 3 days now. on & off. Is this a bad thing? I mean other than the pain i'm suffering..

  1. if it's been on and off then I wouldn't worry.  What they are worried about is PIH, preeclampsia and mainly just high blood pressure.  (this doesnt usually occur until after 20 weeks).  If it goes away and then comes back ,it just sounds  like an aggravating headache.  If it were from high blood pressure and PIH or preeclampsia, the headache would not go away at all.  Sounds like  an annoying pregnancy thing.  Good thing you called though.  Better safe then sorry

  2. persistent head ache in pregnancy could be a sign of high blood pressure which needs to be checked. in later months it can lead to being hospitalised.

  3. My doc told me headaches are bad when accompanied by little white dots in your vision, as this is a sign of preclampsia. Every time I get preggo I have headaches from about the 5 month or so on, daily. My doc says its nothing to worry about unless I have the dots in my vision, other than that.... tylenol.

  4. The concern with headaches during pregnancy is high blood pressure which is a symptom of PIH or pregnancy induced hypertension which could lead to eclampsia,  a very serious condition to have during pregnancy.  If you do have headaches that don't go away, flashes or spots in front of you eyes or increase swelling of the hands and feet you need to be checked by your doctor or go to you delivering hospital emergency room.
