  1. You should be ok.... They would consider it as a cary on or personal bag...

  2. You should be able to carry it on board. I work for AA and this is our policy:

    Musical Instruments

Small musical instruments may be carried on-board the aircraft providing they meet existing carry-on size requirements and fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. Case dimensions may not exceed 45 linear inches (width+length+height), except for guitars which may be brought on board only if they can be safely stowed in an overhead bin or approved stowage location in the cabin. The instrument is considered the passenger's one allowed carry-on bag. A personal item is allowed in addition to the instrument.

    Hope this helps

  3. It's a good idea to call the airlines you're using and check.  Also see:

  4. I have flown with my violin before. I had no problems. We simply called the airport in advance and submitted the sizes and weights of our cases. They didn't fit with the standard carry-on size, but we were able to bring them anyways providing we sent them through the standard baggage screening procedures.

    Hope this helps!
