Did you have your son circumcised?

i didn't, now everyone is criticizing me for not doing it. he is 3 now and my family thinks i should still have it done. i think that would be cruel and painful.

I keep reading...let the child decide when their older... can you imagine the pain they would be in when they are older?  Why would anyone want to have to always remember the pain they went through(when they are older) because their parents didn't want to make that decision.

I had all 3 of my boys circumcised and don't regret it at all.  They were all done in the hospital a day after they were born. There is nothing wrong with them and they don't remember a thing.

I had my son circumcised in the hospital right after birth.  I think 3 is a little old but I'm sure it can still be done.  It might be more painful....but if it is something that is important to you then I suppose you should do it.  Def. talk to your pediatrician and ask about the risks.

Do some research on the medical/health reasons for having/not having circumcision. My baby was underweight at birth, so circumcision was postponed. When he was almost one year old, he was scheduled for removal of a disfiguring birthmark, and the surgeon agreed to do the circumcision at the same time.

No I didnt and Im glad I did.  You are the mother and the one in charge of your son.  I have been critisized too but its their problem.  As long as your son is healthy AND HAPPY that is all the matters.  DONT DO IT!! IT IS CRUEL AND PAINFUL.. So sorry he didn't get it done as a newborn. The principle remains the same - a circumcision will make cleanliness ever so much easier. It will prevent infections and f******n problems. It is useful if other boys in the neighbourhood are done and particularly so if his father or brother are done.

At the age of three he will be given general anaethesia and won't feel a thing. The doctor will be able to give a better cosmetic result and if pain relief is needed afterward, it can be easily administered. I do not believe it is cruel or painful!

I helped with the circumcision of a 4 year old a few years ago. He was fine and is now a very happy little boy. (Mind you, he had had a few infections and it was really needed because he was experiencing pain and difficulties. This is what you may be sparing your son if you have him circumcised now).

What make you think it hurts any less when they are born? At least with adult circumcision there are strong pain killers that are not an option for a newborn.

i agree with you, i think that is just wrong and at 3 that's even worse, i have a little boy all ready and didn't have him circumcised he is only 3 1/2 right now but so far he has not had any problems, i guess keeping good hygiene is the most important thing, i am scheduled to have another baby boy in three weeks and i am not having him circumcised either. He can always do it on his own if it is that important when he is of age.

No way!  Circumcision causes a wound which provides an avenue for infection while it attempts to heal.  

I'd rather my son enjoy his natural, intact p***s and not suffer problems from sexual dysfunction, complications of circumcision, or the knowledge that his parents were perfectly happy to mutilate his genitals when he was a babe.

Your son will be glad he has a whole p***s when he's older.  Your family can just go wallow in their own ignorance and inadequacy.

if you didn't have it done at birth then you should not have it done now. I had my son done at birth because a talked to many peds. and they all told me the same thing. It is much healthier for the child.  children that are not tend to get infections. When boys get to the age were they clean themselves they sometimes don't do a very good job with pulling back the skin and cleaning and that can cause horrible odor and infection. So yes I had it done My baby didn't cry or anything.

I'm not circumcised thankfully I have a natural p***s which is natures best? Do they really know why they want him circumcised except from a bunch of tales or maybe it's a family tradition?

We always think that we know better than nature with out limited knowledge, and have the whole world in a load of c**p with that kind of thinking.

It's about the boys future s*x life and not about somebody's fashion whim...or to make it look like Daddy's.

Circumcision is on the way out and not coming in. Europe does not do it, nor does Australia or England...where it started during the Victorian Era for les noble reason than you might imagine.

I'm 24, happily married since 22, I have a natural p***s because my Mom is from European back ground and know better about the natural p***s. She could see no true reason for changing and saw it as a cruel and painful form of body mutilation, which it is, and also a lessening of my sexual pleasure as a man....After all, who ever considers that a little boy grow up to be a functional man!! ...Forbid!! Hahaha!

I never had a problem, and the highest percentage of natural guys don't. If anything with it was to be changed, it would be a loss to us as to the amount of pleasure that I experience as well as the amount of control that I have from being able to feel everything. The f******n has protected the head of my p***s, keeping it at maximum possible sensitivity, and a membrane with the nerve receptors at the surface instead of dry multi layered skin covering them over. Circumcised guys will give me a thumbs down and argue my point, but physics alone supports me. They will use cleanliness as an excuse to circumcise, but every one needs to wash including Ladies who also have hidden intricate places... What they are, needs to be best, and I don't blame then for feeling that way!!!

In being the same type of creature that your son is, I thank you on his behalf, because he isn't able to know the difference or tell you yet.

Having the experience of all of my parts, no son of mine will be circumcised and it isn't to look like me, it's for his future sexual pleasure!

Stick to your guns, because he isn't able to protect himself. Circumcision should really be his choice in the first place.

Oh, wow.  What's wrong with people?  When I took my oldest son to a new doctor when he was two she asked me if I wanted him circumcised.  I felt like slapping her for even asking.

You're right, it would be cruel and painful, just as it would be to a newborn.  You just need to tell your family that the state of your son's p***s is not up for debate.  End of discussion.

EDIT:  Hey Mexicana, what if one of your sons grows up and learns what he lost through YOUR decision and wishes that he was normal?

We had my son circumcised right before we left the hospital.  I left the choice up to my husband since I really have no clue about stuff like that.  Just because your family wants it done does not mean that you should if that is not what you think is best.

No... I didn't want neither of my sons to be circumcised. I think it's barberic that parents would mutilate their sons just because they're too lazy to teach them proper hygiene.

You made a good decision not to. I had my first circumcised, although i didn't want to. My husband insisted. However, after doing much research and being a little against it to begin with I refused to have anymore of our boys circumcised. I wouldn't get our daughter circumcised so why would I our sons? Most of what pro circ people say is c**p. Ignore your family, you made the right choice.

My brother wasn't circumsized and at 7yrs he got a horrible infection, so he was in so much pain and had to have it at 7 yrs old, where they actually remember the pain. He's 24 now and still remembers.

If I have a boy, I'll definitely have him circumcised. You should do what YOU feel is best and not bow to family pressure but that said, I don't think at age 3 it would be cruel!

i think it would be a bad idea to circumcise at this point. i had my son circumcised in the hospital right after he was born and he slept through the procedure, but it would be too painful and traumatizing for a toddler. i think you should let him decide, when he gets older, whether he wants to get snipped or not. and there is absolutely nothing wrong with him not being circumcised at 3 years old. don't let anyone tell you different. its just a personal choice, and now he may be luckier than some because the choice is all his. :)
