Did you hear about the black man that was tasered to death?

I just saw on the news about how Barron Pykes, a 21-year-old black man was tasered to death by a police officer.

He was wearing handcuffs but he did not get up quickly enough for the police officer so the officer (who was white) tasered him 6 times. When the officer told him to get out of the police car, he did not move so he was thrown onto the pavement and tasered 2 more times. However, he did not move because he was DEAD. The coroner released th autopsy and said that the man was dead in the car.

Why do police officers think this is standard procedure? The man was in handcuffs. How much damage could he do? He was not even fighting or resisting arrest, he just was too slow getting up.

Thoughts?

  1. I know, he was overweight and just apparently had a hard time moving around....I can't beleive that happened (well I guess I can in today's society).  I feel so bad for his  family.  I am glad they are standing up and trying to do something about it- but it still won't bring him back...sadness!

  2. Tasers are too easy to use. They should be for the most extreme cases only, or just be illegal

  3. cuz the police officer was a b*****d ... duh

    racist

thinks he is superior lol... im not that way though =)

  4. its always about black and white isn't it.

  5. he died!!!!

wow i didn't know that. oh well. i never knew a taser could do that. could be racism, or maybe the officer had a bad day...

    life goes on...

  6. OMG! That is horrible! Tasers should ONLY be used when an offender is being violent and endangering people. Also, if the offender's actions require tasering, he/she should be tasered ONCE and only once. That is so awful! Police should have to go through weeks of training AND be tasered themselves before ever using a taser on an offender. Those are my thoughts on the matter.

    Please answer this. Thanks (:

  7. Why does it matter so much that his was black?

I think it is really messed up what happened, but I also think that people who always look at "black" and "white" have deep racial issues that need dealt with.

  8. I wonder if you would care if the media had just printed the facts.  "Criminal tasered while resisting arrest, dies shortly after."  Or if his skin was any color other than black?  I doubt you would care at all, if his skin was brown, yellow or white.

Maybe the gentleman shouldn't have been doing whatever he was doing, that required peace officers, because there is no guarantee the officers that arrive will be the color you hope for!  Duh.

  9. Before we start throwing the "racist" word around consider this. There are people that are well trained that do stupid things and not all the facts are out yet like what was this guy doing to get arrested? Was he on meth or something? The police have video recordings these days to help with investigations and prosecutions.

Also, since tazers are considered non-lethal, as compared to a gun, the police tend to resort to using the tazer more often then they would if they only had a gun because of the "non-lethal" mind set. If someone is not complying, instead of getting into a fist fight and possibly injured they just taze the suspect and avoid injury.

*Many police departments today react to public scorn, wether deserved or not. I'll wait unti this case is ajudicated and then I will make a final decision on the actions of the Police Officers, those brave few that we call to save us when the wolf growls at the door.

  10. are you implying that the officer was racist? cuz there is no indication of that at all.

pt is a guy was killed by a stupid policeman. he just happened to be black.

i need a link too cuz i don't believe you.

  11. i like to believe that most cops were losers in high school and got beat up alot, so now they r taking out there anger with there authority
