Ok,

So my dad gets home from work and tells me about this story he heard on the radio.

A Police officer see's a guy flying down the road in Texas. So he pulls him over. The guy stops and tell the cop that his dog is dyeing. He needs to gop to the vet- The police officer replys"Calm down It's just a dog you can get another one". THe poor guy was detained by the officer for 15 mins. And in that time his dog passed away.. Doesn't that make you sick, I guess the police cheif made a statement saying that that is not what their county is about and it was a isolated incodent.. But It blew my mind..What would you do in a situation like this?

I would have to say I woun't of even stopped. I would have called into the police station told them there was a cop following me and me and my dog are going to the vett and to have the officer meet me there...

I know I would be in ALOT of trouble..But if it saved my dog.. how could I not...

What would you do.. what do you think about this story?

  1. I think its disgusting. I would too, have called ahead. Give me a ticket, but give me a ticket after my dog was at the vets. I am surprised at that officer in TX. They have the harshest animal cruelty laws, and that is exactly what that was. I hope that cop gets a fine and is brought to trial for it.

  2. I would be suing his butt and having him charged with animal cruelty.

  3. let me preface my words with the fact i will used deadly force to protect my dog,  (he is my hearing dog)

an emergency does not give a citizen the right to "fly" down the road. it does not give the police, an ambulance or anyone else the right to "fly" down the road.

it is possible to get where you are going rapidly without excessive speed.

the cop is what he is, and i won't judge him, i was not there and the guy's attitude could have been a significant factor

had the guy said, i'm going to the vet, follow me, and driven off, he's still face the same problems (jail included) that he faced before.

the rule of thumb is this, don't create other victims in your attempt to get emergency care.

  4. BIG BROTHER dose not care about you or your pets , only in control and security. after all the dog could have been a terrorist!!! this is just one of those sick stories we are starting to hear more of as freedom and compassion disappear for the average person. my heart gos out to the dog owner and ,for the uncompassion of the cop he is h**l bound .

  5. Wow...I feel really bad for the guy that lost his dog. Some people just don't care about animals and that cop was one of them I guess. If it were me I would have stopped to explain (from the window) and if the cop did not let me go or offer to take me to the vet I would have just driven off and face the consequences after my dog is safe. I can't imagine losing my dog and I don't want to. I would do whatever it takes to save my dog.

  6. The guy was doing over 100 mph, weaving in and out of traffic and totally distraught. While I agree that it wasn't handled correctly by the officer the dog owner shouldn't have been on the road in that state.

  7. I HATE that cop.

I don't think it was the guy's fault. The cop should have at least known CPR for a child. That could have worked for the dog. But no, he didn't and instead he prolonged writing the ticket, and the dog died. He was probably trying to show that he was the one in control and he had the power.

What kind of excuse is that for killing an innocent life?!

The whole time, another woman officer was standing beside th guy's girlfriend and saying, " She is dead. It's just a dog."

What the ****?! She must have known CPR, and she didn't even try to help.

You can't, and won't ever a dog to replace Missy for the couple.

If I was head of the police in Texas, than I would have fired, fined and jailed (1 yr) the cop.

    R.I.P Missy...

  8. I would have gone as fast as I could within the law. If you are going  close to the speed limit they can't pull you over. I guess it depends on how bad my dog is.

The officer shouldn't have done that. He may not like dogs but that pet is loved by someone dearly. I would sue the guy for all he is worth. In a way that is animal cruelty. Someone call the SPCA.

Ok if it is someones wife there is NO excuse. You shouldn't do that to a dog but if a human is dying you let them go without question. He should have been charged with 2nd degree murder.

  9. This story makes me sick 2. I could imagine how horrible it would be if this happened 2 me. I wouldn't have even stopped until I got 2 the vet.  Butt if this did happen I would file a complaint and sue the officer.

  10. I have heard of the same situation happening in my home state but instead of a dog, it was the man's WIFE!!!  She passed away of a heart attack before he reached the hospital because the officer detained him for almost 20 minutes and NOTHING was done to the officer because they said he was just doing his job.

So yes, some things in this country are just messed up

  11.   Since I'm a dog lover,I think the officer sucks. What I believe he should have done is escort the guy to the vets office. Then give the guy a warning ticket.I know a dog is a dog but, to some people he's part of the family. My Lab,Annie, died a few months ago,and I sure miss her.

  12. OMG, wow i would not have stopped ethier, i know trouble would follow but my pup would come 1st

  13. Yeah you know.. I saw someone had asked about that a day or two ago in here.  That's horrible.  I think I'd either not have pulled over or just have said 's***w you' and have pulled out and continued on to the vet.  I don't know. .I mean I wasn't in the situation but I can't see anything being more important than my pet's life and well being and I just think I woulda dealt with the whole legal end of it later.

  14. I would file a complaint on someone.

  15. I would not have pulled over. Once he saw me pull into the vet hopefully he would figure it out or then it could be explained while the vet was working on the dog. I think its a good idea to call the local police & tell them like you said, that your being followed but you cant stop for whatever the reason.  How awful. I would sue the officer & press the department to take action.

**update** last night i had to drive my dog to the emergency vet & this email was in my head. dont stop if a cop tries to pull me over, just keep going until i get there. thank god, i didnt get pulled over & my dog is now fine...until the next time she ingests something she shouldnt

  16. This is a story that has taken many forms-the dog dies, the wife dies, etc.... Snopes.com-urban legends. I have not seen a link to any of these stories, which suggests, it always happens to a friend of a friend, etc.... and it is not fact. If someone really believes this please include a link,so that we all can complain to the proper authorities.

EDIT!!! I found a link to the story

    http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/stran...

  17. The cop was doing his job. Driving at high speeds endangers not only the driver, but others in his path. it's sad that the dog died(if indeed this story is true) but don't blame the cop for doing his job, blame all the other idiots that speed and cause harm to others.

As far as another answer about the wife dying due to being stopped..why didn't the guy just call the medics? They are trained to care for patients enroute to the hospital?

  18. Terribly sad.  Some cops are amazing while others give the rest a bad name.
