OTTAWA - Temporary foreign workers and international students with recognized skills will be able to apply for permanent residency from within Canada under a new immigration class announced today.

Immigration Minister Diane Finley says the new program will be implemented in October and is part of the government's efforts to make Canada more attractive to skilled foreign workers.

Now all they have to do is find a way to get all the foreign-trained professionals who are already here--you know, the doctors, engineers, nurses and teachers who are driving taxis, picking fruit and working at McDonald's-- to work in their professions in Canada.
