Question:

Did you hurry while opening presents at your bridal shower?

I know that a lot of guests get bored at bridal showers (the ones that last 3 hours), especially while the bride is opening presents. My question is: How many of you, brides, hurried through your presents for your guests? I am not asking if you were "speed racer", but just if you (honestly) stepped it up a little on purpose?

Note: I am already married; I am not looking for advice...just wondering what other brides did.

  1. Yes, the gift opening portion of my shower felt really rushed. We did have a lot of people (50+) so I would have been there all day. My bridesmaids pre-opened the gifts, handed me the card to read, then one wrote down the person/gift and taped the card to the gift, the others put everything off to the side. I felt a little cheated out of admiring all the beautiful, elaborate gift wrap people put lots of time into though. If I had taken all the time I wanted to, people would have been bored to tears.

  2. I'm from England.  Dont think Bridal showers are that popular here.  I am not having one - why should I expect presents, I'm getting married - people do that everyday!  Its more important to me to have my friends support and love than their gifts.

  3. My shower was last weekend and I couldn't rip that paper off fast enough!  I was trying to be very respectful and spend an adequate amount of time commenting on each gift, but inside I wanted to get it over with.  It's no fun to sit around and watch someone open gifts!  Luckily, I only have 15 guests, so it didn't take me too long to get through it....10 seconds... just kidding.   :)

  4. yeah i tried to go as quick as i could through mine so that people wouldn't be bored

  5. i did it at a steady pace but didn't rush through it.  Everyone wanted to take pictures of everything I got so I had to smile and pose with everything.  I wish i could have done it faster.

  6. I was MOH recently at my cousin's wedding. I found it quite amusing while she opened her gifts. I get the impression many of the other guests did as well, though i did not specifically ask them. It was a medium sized shower so it took maybe 30 mins maximum to open the gifts, with plenty of talking and laughing, eating and drinking between each gift as wel all sat in a large double living room together (about 25 guests). Some gifts were very nice (ie. photo frame), others were lingerie and edible panties for the honeymoon so it was quite entertaining and everybody had something to say. Each person seemed proud or happy to have the bride to be comment on their gift.

But if it was on a larger scale, as mentioned  by other people, it could be too timely to do this.

But of course one needs to at least be polite and thank everyone for their gifts.

  7. I didn't open any, my bridesmaids did. So it was quick, and painless. :) For the guests, and me.

  8. i didn't have one, i didn't think they were popular in the uk, but hey i guess i was wrong, i didn't get many wedding gifts either for some reason and the wedding cost us a fortune, my parents or hubby's didn't give anything towards the wedding. i got a radiator shelf off my parents for a gift LOL
