MPS registration will last for 5 years, after which you will need to re-register or you start to get junk mail again!

  1. Same with the Telephone Preference Service.

Commercial companies lobbied MPs to allow this. Money talks, so much for democracy.

  2. I hadn't heard about this and I'm really surprised as there is nothing about it on their website as far as I can see but they do warn about rogue operators trying to cash in.  I don't do MPS but I'm on TPS and I've been on it for longer than five years and hardly any sales calls get through and they certainly haven't increased because it has 'run out' after five years.  The odd call that gets through comes from an automated service and I just hang up and haven't bothered complaining to TPS.

I'd be really interested to know how you came to hear about this and if they actually told you in person.  If it does apply they should definitely make it clear on their website and possibly send people reminders, otherwise it's an excellent service.  I used to get lots of calls about double glazing and conservatories, and I just used to shut them up by saying 'I'm a council tenant' which you can say btw whether you're a council tenant or not!!!!!

Edit, hey, yes, I've just tried it, they tell you this when you register on MPS, but I really think they should explain it on the main website as well.

But thanks for telling us, I'll check with TPS as well, and sorry about my now totally irrelevant answer.
