I think that's the best way to do a show like that cos if it were over rehersed it wouldn't be as funny.

Paul Merton used to take great delight in reminding everybody that all of Angus Deayton's jokes were rehearsed and read from an autocue. Apparently they didn't get along, demonstrated by Merton's constant attempts to put him off with repeated interruptions. He's a bit kinder to the guest hosts! It is impressive though. There'd be no show without those two, but I think it's been proved that it doesn't really matter who the host is.
