  1. This is a public relations move, and while commendable, doesn't in any way offset any of the less benevolent corporate practices that Walmart regularly practices.

Did you know that they fired a customer relations manager in NJ who confronted a shoplifter who proceeded to physically assault her and had to be restrained?

  2. People who bother to do anything beyond listening to Jerry Springer or some whining Union mouthpiece, are fully aware that Walmart is pretty good neighbor.

To hear that they are helping with money or supplies or both is no surprise to me.

I'm almost 60 years old and I don't know what "rocks" mean in this sentence but if it is a good thing, I am with you...  Walmart does indeed rock.

  3. Yep because Wal-Mart is NOT the ugly corporate monster that unions want you to believe.  They offer health insurance to the poorest of workers (not to mention the leader in hiring GED and people who do not continue education), they have low cost food and accept assistance cards in every state.  They may suck at alot of things, but it's the best thing the low and middle class americans have to make life comfortable.  Sorry a million dollars isn't enough to help out, how much exaclty did Nancy Pelosi donate?  Al Gore?  Rob Reiner?  Michael Moore?  They are multi-millionaires who live in that state, did they help out any more than Arkansas based Wal-mart?  I do remember them giving out millions of dollars aof food and nmerchandise in New Orleans, even opening the doors and letting people take what they need.  Did you do that today?  Did you invite the displaced strangers in Malibu to your home?  Would you open the door to your Compton neighbors if they needed a place to sleep?

  4. Out of curiosity, how many Walmart stores have been affected by / are being threatened by the fires?

Coming out of Walmart's pocket, $1 million isn't very much. At the same time, they didn't have to donate anything, and $1 million is better than nothing.

  5. 1 million dollars for Walmart is less that 100th of cent in your pocket for them

  6. Sounds great that rocks...

  7. yes, wal mart rocks, but honestly 1 mill is pocket change for them

  8. WOOT WOOT! GO WALLY WORLD! <3

  9. My in law brother who lives near the fires needed to get some beer today but his Walmart used the excuse about the fires close early.

  10. no i didnt

  11. They gave one million dollars to help on a fire that could have been prevented had someone shut the environmentalists up when they cried about the Forestry Service doing controlled burns ....they stopped the controlled burns , that is so stupid when you live in a desert....controlled burns would have burned out all the dry and dead brush that is feeding the fire ....

So wal mart gives a million dollars to a disaster that could have been prevented , yet they can not give their employees a decent lunch break or benefits ...that too is stupid ..

Throwing money at the problem is not going to solve the problem , I know it is horrible out there , but if they do not allow controlled burns and clearing of land around the homes  it will happen again , and anyone who rebuilds is stupid if they keep the laws the same...

With all the money wal mart makes that is all they can do , that is not even a days profit ...

If Wal Mart wants to impress me , they can take good care of their workers , and get things on the shelf that is worth a sh*t ..

I bet wal mart would have given more to California if they allowed the super center wal marts there ..

  12. Finally, they do something good.

  13. Only 1 million? They have more money then any other company world wide....they could donated a h**l of alot more....consider they are in almost every country now..destroying small business globally...you would think they could spare more.. 1 million is change to walmart

  14. Actually, it's not WalMart Stores, the retailer, that made that contribution, it's the WalMart Foundation.

But let's just pretend that WalMart Stores was actually making that contribution. That company had gross profits of $84.5 billion last year. That's a LOWER proportion of gross income as an $8/hour employee donating 19c.

And if the WalMart Stores made that donation, the IRS would reimburse them for about a third of it.

WalMart spends $11 million EVERY WEEK on advertising. So they spent 9% of this week's advertising budget on california fire relief. Do you think they got their money's worth?

  15. One good act does not make a company wonderful.

  16. Walmart has a financial interest in stopping the fires. So people can get back in the store to buy things.

It's a small price to pay to fix the fire situation.

  17. Whoo hoo, butter my butt and call me a biscuit!  Oh wait, I don't shop at Mall wart and never will.  How many little towns did they have to kill to make that 1 million in the first place?   How many living wage employees did they have to let go to make up for that?  Oh, wait, they don't pay most of their employees a living wage.  Oh and how much were their profits on the cheap plastic c**p and organic CAFO chickens today alone?  It looks good in print, but so do those triple chocolate brownies that someone put ex lax into.

  18. They could have donated more than that, that like pennies to them.

    but ya...rock on!

  19. I never shop at Walmart, and never will

  20. THEY SHOULD HAVE--GOT 2,100 STORE IN CALIFORNIA ALONE.

WAL MART HAS BEEN TRYING TO CHANGE IT IMMAGE FOR YEARS NOW AND IS MAKING STRIDES IN THAT DIRECTION.

SOME PEOPLE CANNOT FORGET AND MOVE ON.

  21. Maybe these corporate thieves are planning on an image change ? How does Wal-Martyr sound ?

  22. no, but now that i know that i will start shopping there more often. thanx!
