Did you know gas costs about 12 cents a gallon in Venezuela?

I am so against war, but if we truly went to war with Iraq over oil,I say we lost, lets pull our troops out and send them down to South America.

Venezuela and Hugo Chavez get a lot of bad publicity from the Western Media but they sure know how to make the USA look like an impotent giant .

Venezuela's government nationalized its oil companies, and it sells gasoline to its people at a ridiculous low price. It makes up for it by selling the stuff overseas. It's a way for the government to stay popular -- no small task, based on some of its other reported actions.

The government there controls their gas, the same in Mexico. It would be much smarter for America to do that, but the big oil companies have controlled the government and lobbied politicians for so long that it's kind of a cycle, or a trap. The companies would go crazy if the government decided to subsidize gas.

I say, just like Opec, we create the Food Producing Exporting Countries cartel, and start charging $122 a barrel for food.

Oh wow, your a monster and i hope a guy like you never makes it to office, maybe instead, we should drill in OUR COUNTRY and not invade others. It's their resources  ,not yours. Or maybe, since i ran out of jelly and pizza rolls, i should go to your house and just steal it and beat your a-s-s for it, i mean , it's better than doing the right thing and buying some at the store, right?

Yeah.  I saw it for 20 cents in Egypt!

I believe OPEC used to cap the price at $30/barrel until Bush decided to invade Iraq.  So if they didn't go there for oil, or WMDs, or connections to 911, what exactly did they go there for?  There are worse dictators still out there than Saddam.  But I guess Bush had a grudge.

Americans need to support local drilling and get off foreign dependency.  There is a lot of oil in the Gulf of Mexico and in Alaska. We've handcuffed ourselves with our unrealistic environmentalist requirements for our refineries. There have been such advances in technology that an oil spill has a very low chance of happening.  The chances are actually greater of an oil spill while it's being shipped from the Middle East than if it were drilled and refined locally.  That also lowers the cost which is why it's so cheap in Venezuela.  

We have a lot of oil in the U.S., we're just scared to drill for it for some reason.

And by the way, we aren't at war for the oil.
