They're not in Iraq, they're in Afghanistan to comply with their obligations under the NATO treaty, and it's true.  Their government has specified that they're not to go to the more dangerous parts of Afghanistan, like Helmand province.  Only the Americans, Brits, Danes, Duch and Canadians do the real fighting.

Germans and Frenchies are not useful in battle anyway. They would just get in the way. Better to have them direct traffic or something.
