Did you know that Peruvian natives make coca tea out of coca leaves? That is crazy.?

El té de la coca es un producto natural. El té preserva todas las características fisicoquímicas de la hoja de la coca. El producto satisface el estándar peruano técnico y se puede vender nacionalmente, aunque tal uso está siendo desalentado en parte por la sola convención sobre las drogas narcóticas.

El té es color amarillo verdoso, y tiene un sabor ligeramente amargo, algo similar a ése del té verde pero con un levemente más gusto naturalmente dulce.

  1. They also simply chew the leaves themselves. Why do you find this "crazy"...coca has many medicinal & recreational uses...for these people, it has allowed them to well adapt to the atmosheric changes they go through when travelling from the low farms to the higher elevated ones...it also keeps them happy on the job, provides a main fiber source, keeps their teeth & gums healthy...in its plant form, it is not an addictive substance...too bad we can't buy it like this, huh? Go figure!!!

    Coca leaves aren't exactly the same thing as cocaine.

  4. Yes.  I had Mate de coca several times when I was in Peru.  It's an excellent cure for altitude sickness, and is less of a stimulant than a cup of coffee.

    You have to PROCESS the leaves before you get any sort of "drug" high.

    Oh, it's also pretty tasty - it's kind of mint flavored.
