Actually I don't think that's true. Michael Schumacher, of F1 Racing, is the first sports figure to have earned a billion dollars through "job" earnings and endorsements.

Actually, he isn't quite there yet - but closing in fast! As of the end of last year he's approaching $750,000,000 and made just short of $100,000,000 in 2007. So looks like he'll have a big celebration sometime during the 2010 season. He's widely predicted to exceed $5 Billion since golfers peak in their 30's and, in his great physical condition, he looks good to go for a very long time.
