This is because the vehicle steering wheel is on the left in countries which drive on the right--- think about it.

  1. I drive a LHD sweeper wagon during the day job, and a RHD car in the UK

I have never missed a gearchange or gone for the wrong lever when driving

    maybe its just habit ?

    Dont fancy driving abroad either

  2. Well, in right side of the road drive countries, the advantage of driving with the left hand means that the right hand is free to put around the neck of the girl friend or wife.

But, in the U.S., I would venture to guess, that it really doesn't matter which side.   The majority of drivers over sixty or on a cellphone takes their part of the road out of the middle anyway.

  3. I am thinking and will get back with you just as soon as possible.

  4. This is nonsense. I and thousands of other people drive both left hand and right hand drive cars, we use both our left hand and right hand or both hands to steer, for all the other controls we use which ever hand is closest right or left it doesn't matter.

As to right handed people being forced to steer with their left hand because they're driving a car with a left hand steering wheel, so, what do you expect to use their feet.

  5. magic 8 ball  says try your question again later

  6. Well yeah silly, people aren't going to drive with crossed arms are they! Tractors have their controls on the right so steer with the left but when in a car (UK) it feels normal too.So it comes down to the age old thing of the more you do the better you get at things.I drive a car in the morning, tractors and telehandlers during the day(most telehandlers have cabs on the left or in the midddle with steering done with left hand) so nothing seems that strange to me.

  7. So what? I steer with my knee.

  8. I did think about it and came up with the conclusion you should steer with both hands.

  9. This was a Yahoo Answer a while ago and I think it makes sense:When changing gear in a UK car with the steering wheel on the right , this is of course correct in the UK etc for driving on the left--------your left hand changes gear and your right hand stays on the steering wheel, (this is safer for right handed people.)

Right handed people who are also "right eyed" have the traffic coming toward them on their right in left hand driving areas , which is the way "right eyed" people are able to react better

When I reverse out I hold the steering wheel with my right hand and look over my left shoulder to the rear window. In a USA car you must hold the steering wheel with your left hand and look over your right shoulder to look out of the rear window.. So you must reverse with your left hand on the steering wheel.. Or stick your head out of the window if you want to use your right hand on the steering wheel. Or use side mirrors---Dangerous for the 82% right handed majority.

Mounting a bike in the UK is done from the sidewalk by right handed people who find it easier to put their right leg over the bike. , Much safer and this must have saved many lives.

  10. It was Hitler and Napoleon who caused people to drive on the right which is wrong for most people who are right handed.

Two megalomaniacs Napoleon and Hitler between them caused many to drive on the right, both were wrong to do so

Instinctively right handed people tend to drive on the left hand side of the road as seen where the driving position is central (bicycle, stage coach &c.) and where no rules exist (not many places nowadays). Those European countries where rules existed almost all drove on the left. Then came a megalomaniac (Napoleon Bonaparte) who wanted change in order to leave his mark and changed those countries he conquered to right hand running. Much later a similar bloke (Adolf Hitler) overran most of the rest and changed them in the interests of uniformity and efficiency

  11. That's true, but it really shouldn't make any difference. Anyone who cannot steer a car with one hand, either their left or right, has no business behind the wheel in the first place.

  12. NOT SUPPOSE TOO DRIVE WITH 1 HAND NEED BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL TO HAVE CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE AT ALL TIMES,IF YOU BLOW OUT A FRONT TIRE YOU COULD LOSE CONTROL AND CRASH AND BURN NOT A GOOD THING..PROPER HAND POSITION IS 9 & 3 OR 10 & 2.AND I'M LEFT HANDED SO I DON'T KNOW IF BEING RIGHT HANDED MAKES A DIFFERENCE...
