They just started wearing veils in 1980 and many didn't want to but some were up for it. What do you think about this? The average young American wouldn't of known this unless they looked it up. If you want to learn more of this and Iran you should read Persopolis (Marjane Satrapi), it's a non-fiction in the view of a young ten-year-old girl growing up when this started happening.

  1. Yes.  In fact I know only two Iranians personally.  One is a lady dentist with a thriving practise whom I partnered regularly at a ballroom dance club.  The other, Lotfi Mansouri, left the Canadian Opera Company to take over the San Francisco Opera. Two more cultured and civilized people one could not hope to meet. If the downward spiral of Iran puzzles me, I wonder what it does to them!

  2. I knew that without looking it up, only because I am enrolled in Advanced Placement classes, and I spent a whole year learning about cultures of the world last year.  But yeah, that isn't a very common piece of information considering the growing middle-eastern stereotype in America.

  3. Yeah, I knew that because I'm 50. Before the Khomeinis came to power, Iran was ruled by Shah Reza Pahlavi, a very evil and corrupt man. The Iranians were so desperate to get rid of him that they accepted Khomeini as their new leader without much consideration.

  4. Just because they are iran does not mean they have to.

    its a choice of lifestyle.

  5. I don't understand it and think that it's mens way of controlling their women. I try being open minded but don't think that this practice is right.
