A meat-based diet requires 7 times more land than a plant-based diet. Each pound of steak from feedlot-raised steers that you eat comes at the cost of 5 pounds of grain, 2500 gallons of water, the energy equivalent of a gallon of gasoline, and about 25 pounds of eroded topsoil. And the combined weight of the world's 19 billion farm animals now surpasses the weight of the human population by over one and a half times. So lets all go vego and save the planet! Comments?

  1. I knew it was something like that. Did you know it takes seven times more water to make a plastic waterbottle than it can hold?  Also, the purchase of one T-shirt and a pair of jeans made from 100 percent organic cotton eliminates at least 150 grams of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides from the environment. If one out of every five Americans purchased a 100 percent organic T-shirt instead of one made from conventionally grown U.S. cotton, nearly 50,000 tons of agrochemicals would be prevented from polluting U.S.  Wow! I recommend product (Red) at Gap

  4. Hello, I have stopped my consumption of meat for a whole year now, after learning that we have been using so many resources like water and fossil fuels to create a single kilogram of beef. I used to LOVE steak, like prime ribs, sirloin, etc. However, After learning about all of this, I completely stopped eating meat. I would like to tell everyone that is reading this comment right now that IT ISN'T HARD!!! In fact, it was a lot easier than I had anticipated it. Also, you do not lack nutrition. You can get all the vitamins and minerals you need from one multivitamin pill, and fruit and vegetables. I am not a environmental freak, but I feel that it is imperative that everyone should take small steps in reducing the workload on the very earth that we live in. Thank you for making this post!!! I really enjoyed commenting on your post.

  6. I knew it, and thats a big number, but I'm not willing to give up milk and the few ounces of meat a week that I eat.

I do what I can in other ways. I increased the recycling by several tons a year at my work - - going veg isnt going to help as much as people (especially vegetarians) think - now if you can get people to cut down from eating 8 ounces of meat a day, to 4 ounces twice per week - then I would be darned impressed. And I'm pretty sure anyones chances of that kind of conversion are far greater.
