When I found out I got sick. I know animals get killed, but they often don't get killed humanely. We are humans, not animals, so I don't understand why some of the slaughters don't use their brains/ feelings.

  1. It's a cruel world we live in and we have to get on with things and just do the best we can, so just get used to it.

  2. Where did you get this information from? All slaughter houses are licensed and kill animals generally by stunning them first so they feel no pain.

As far as I was aware the only ones that maybe are not quite that way are those where the meat is Halal (think that's how spelt)

However, you should also be aware that it is a bad, sick old world we inhabit and people who have genuine compassion and feelings are in the minority - You are clearly one and I am sure you will somehow be rewarded!

  3. I love horses and racing horses has been a part of our world for a long time.  Can you imagine how many were killed in wars?  Millions I'm sure.

It is pathetic and something should be done, but unfortunately it looks like checking horses for doping is a more pressing issue.  Very very sad.  Nothing should be more important than ensuring the end of a life is as painless and humane as possible.

Out of all 'sports' I'd say horse racing and nascar are the worst.  Nascar only because they waste soooo many resources just to drive in 200 circles- gas, oil, rubber, etc.

  4. If its true.   Sad.   Is it true?

  5. I think its kind of cruel. I mean, if the horse is suffering, I'd put it to sleep. But not slaughter it... I heard people in japan /eat/ horses...

My friend saved seven horses from a slaughter house. Bough them each for $100. They're great horses, I don't know how anyone could kill them... I'm a horse lover, been riding for almost 7 years now.

  6. i really like horse racing.... and i think they closed down the last horse slaughter house maybe a year or so ago........ and i also think the did or are making sending horses out of the country for slaughter illegal

  7. Slaughter houses are suppose to be humane, but they are not. In order to kill countless thousands of animals weekly, a persons mind must really be messed up and the video im linking below proves it.

Just be fore-warned. This is a very graphic and sad documentary. But the message needs to get out on how inhumane these places truly are so hopefully someday somebody does something about it.

  8. I love horses and racing, but the thought of this also makes me feel sick. However I don't think they are inhumanly slaughtered.

Most of the horses are transported to France for the table, and that's another welfare issue as the transportation of the horses is abysmal and their suffering is prolonged in the most awful way.

But what can 1 or 2 individuals do, its up to the racing industry to recognise the problem and do something about it.  There are horse sanctuaries that take in ex racehorses and re home them but they can only take a select few, so what about the others.

I remember going to a top trainers open day many years ago in Newmarket where all his top thoroughbreds were on display at front of house.  My friend and I decided to take a look around the back of the stables and there we found at lots of young horses, without names (probably those who had not made the grade), it was very disturbing to think that these were probably earmarked for slaughter.

Have a look at this article from the

    Observer:-

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2006/oct/01...

it makes heavy reading but explains in great detail what is happening and names some of the culprits, who of course deny everything, you will be surprised whose name crops up.

and its not just racehorses its show jumpers, and ponies from places like Dartmoor and the New Forest and more.

The only thing you can do is support a charity like the International League for the Protection of Horses, now World Horse Welfare:-

    http://www.worldhorsewelfare.org/

Or sponsor an ex racehorse like I do, now living out her life in a Sanctuary at West Runton, Norfolk, part of Hillside Animal Sanctuary charity.  She was a great granddaughter of Mill Reef who didn't make the grade and of course she is one of the lucky ones.

I hope that eventually someone will come up with a solution to stop the breeding of so many foals for the racing industry that are disposed on in such an inhumane manner, until that happens we can only support those people and charities that can make a difference....Jacqui x
