Did you know that rape victims in Brittan get paid over $20,000 by the government?

It comes from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority of Great Brittan. The amount paid for rape is 11,000 pounds or about $20,900 USD.

What is the reason for the government paying victims of crimes? It is a tragedy, but why is it the governments obligation to pay them for it? What's your reaction to this? Can any Brits explain this for me? What's your reaction to this? Does this increase the rate of women claiming that they were raped (when they weren't)? Has this become a problem in Great Brittan. I'm perplexed by this.

I'm not sure if crime victims here are compensated as generously but in the United States we also have compensation for victims of many violent crimes.

The government only compensates if the criminal has no financial means of doing so, or if it's a national disaster (as previously mentioned, 7/7 bombings). Why is this so insulting to you?

Firstly, it's Great Britain, not Brittan, and secondly, they get the compensation only when someone has been charged and sentenced guilty of raping them, so people can't get the money by falsely claiming they have been raped. I don't really know why we pay money to people affected by crime, but it has been going on since 1964.

They compensate victims of major incidents, such as the people injured in the 7th July 2005 bombings in London. People who are victims of deliberate violent crime are compensated up to £250 000, which is around $500 000. Also, people who are the children/parents/partner of someone who died from violent crime may also be compensated.
