The main reason schools do not punish the bullys and stop it is because of the NCLB federal law. THis law mandates that the schools will get more money if they don't have any, or less, document reports of bullying, disclipline records, etc.

So even though there IS more bullying going on, the school does not want to document any records of it going on because they will be found out and not get any money.

This is why there is fighting, bullying, killing in schools. Schools and the Gov't are destroying and killing our kids all in the name of money. MOST people in USA do not know this.

Even though this is a law they must follow, they ALSO have to follow ANOTHER law that is contradictory to that NCLB law. It is called 'anti bully' policy that schools HAVE to stop bullying. Ask to get a copy of that policy from the superintendent office or your state dept of education.

  1. I don't know if this is true but I do know why we have bullies.  It's because of the NCLB law that supports MAINSTREAMING which I HATE! Why don't they support INCLUSION? These conservatives just don't want to try anything new.  I've had it with NCLB law.  There's nothing anyone can do.  But thanks for your understanding about the bullying issue.  The key to overcoming bullying is TOLERANCE.  Obviously these people haven't learned it.

  2. I too belong to alot of online parent groups. There is alot of bullying in the schools that go unpunished. Schools try to sweep it under the rug. I have never heard though that NCLB had anything to do with it. As far as the reply who blames parents for not disciplining their children....many are not good disciplinarians as the laws on child abuse are very strict and they could be reported for anything somebody may not agree with. As for the reply from the self proclaimed school employee. We can tell from your base language why there are so many problems in schools. I have teachers in my local school district that are worse than the bullies and the district tries to keep that hushed up too. Alot of districts are inept and it's all about the benjamins.

  3. Our school district has designated the schools as bully-free zones and bullying is dealt with.  I don't know where you live but around here we don't tolerate any bullying.  Different building principals discipline differently but the message we put out to the students is that if you bully anyone there will be consequences.

  4. No that simply is not true. NCLB deals only with school accountability in terms of school academic improvement. Monies flow out on the basis of teacher qualifications and student success. School-wide behavior is not mentioned in NCLB.

One of the reasons we are seeing more bullying is that parents are exerting less control over their children. There are more families using drugs and not teaching proper social behaviors. Many families are in crisis due to this issue and the high rates of divorce. All of these issues cause parents NOT to give children the support they need and to NOT teach them ways to behave.

Another reason are the high rates of poverty. Children often bully other kids to get what the other kid has and what he or she needs.

  5. If this concerns you so much why don't you do something to change it instead of posting it on here? Bullying has always happened and always will.

  6. I'm 50, and I remember bullies and fighting AND knifing back then.  It's not a new problem.  And to be honest, I've never heard of the money thing.  It could be true.  But to me NCLB only means that ANY child will pass (as is the case in the Los Angeles School District) whether or not they can do the math.

It's a sad commentary on our schools, but I hope that one day someone will TRULY divert money to our PUBLIC schools.  They need it.

Still, I think you may be over stating the problem.  I'm sure schools don't want to report troubles, but they are supposed to.   If they get caught in it, they could be sanctioned.  They would stand to loose more than just a few dollars.  They are smarter than that.

  7. sorry JENPOO but it does happen I myself  has been told by principals at two differant school that they have to keep it low to get funding. There was one boy that has been suspended 3 times already this year 4th grade. When the next issue came up they told us just sit him in the hall.. We cant suspend him anymore our rate is too high as it is.

  8. Please cite your sources for this outrageous claim, the exact wording in the NCLB act that says this.

  9. That's like saying no one is doing anything about homicides and murders in this country... We do have clearly defined rules and punishments, but in Philadelphia alone, homicide has increased every year for the past few years...

NCLB has incentives, but schools, ethically, most times do not implement rules and allow bullying. This is not the sole contributor to continued bullying in schools. You need to look at drug use, poverty, parent involvement, and an increase in special education students going to school in regular schools, among other factors...

And bullying is  not an objective term... Schools implement punishment on violence, inappropriate language, aggression, teasing, etc...

Teachers, in class, do not allow other to bully. No principal or superintendent of schools tell teachers to allow it or not to document it.

Your correlation of funds to bullying is faulty. You are attributing one factor to bullying, and as people have been saying, bullying occurred prior to NCLB as well. There are many more factors involved-- NCLB probably being the least contributing factor, if at all...
