Did you know this about Palin?

I have heard some interesting things about Mrs. Palin from a friend of mine who lives in Alaska. Here's some less than flattering things he knows about the governor. Apparently

"She fired the police chief in Wasilla because he supported her opponent during her re-election. She cleaned out the entire municipal administration in Wasilla and replaced them with people 100% loyal to her every whim. She tried to fire the municipal librarian in Wasilla because she wouldn't ban books. As Governor, Palin tried to fire her sister's ex-husband from the state troopers because her sister was in a custody dispute during her divorce.

Palin also put her sister up to filing a domestic violence claim when Wooten went down to portland with his step son. When Wooten returned he had to wait weeks to seek a trial and then it came out that there was no domestic violence, the sister admitted her family put her up to filing the charge. The judge involved commented it was an abuse of the legal system and threw the charge out restoring custody rights for Wooten."

  1. After reading the articles published in Anchorage Daily News, it sounds like she asked Monegan, former Public Safety Commissioner, about her safety. It reads that she and her father were threatened by a state patrol officer that is her sister ex-husband. When they investigated the officer reprimaned for hunting illegially and tasering an 11 year old boy, which happened to be his step-son. He was also accused of drinking on the job and "faking" a worker's compensation claim.

    Clarity would be nice.

  2. The accuser is blogger and rental car executive Andrew Halcro, a Republican-turned-Independent who lost to Palin in the 2006 governor's race.

The man in the middle is Monegan, who says Palin never told him to fire the trooper, but he felt pressure to do so from members of her administration.

Then there's trooper Mike Wooten, who used a Taser on his stepson, Palin's nephew Payton. Wooten has been reprimanded for violating nearly a dozen laws and departmental policies since December 2001.

It's now in the hands of a state-hired investigator working for a Republican-dominated legislative committee that hopes to sort out the mess.

State lawmakers have long said they understand that Monegan and other commissioners serve at will, meaning they can be fired by Palin at any time.

This investigation into Monegan's dismissal has more than its share of subplots as well. The probe into Palin's involvement if any was ordered by a Republican-dominated state legislative council that includes one of the lawmakers under a federal bribery indictment. And Branchflower, the investigator, is a former Anchorage prosecutor whose wife used to work for Monegan at the Anchorage Police Department.

  3. I don't think this person should be VP......

(But back to the latest scandal-in-waiting, and this one should really have people scratching their heads:

After taking over as mayor of the small town of Wasilla, Palin fired the longtime local police chief. The former police chief, Irl Stambaugh says he was fired because he stepped on the toes of Palin's campaign contributors, including bar owners and the National Rifle Association.

Stambaugh's lawyer, William Jermain, says the chief tried to move up the closing hours of local bars from 5 a.m. to two a.m. after a spurt of drunk driving accidents and arrests.

Odd coincidence: Palin's husband was charged with DUI back in 1986. An interesting guy, Todd Palin. He also belonged to the AIP, that Alaskan secessionist party whose founder often spews about how he hates America's government, and has cursed the flag. I thought of that when watching the video essay on the American flag at last night's GOP convention.)
