  1. No country would have an Embassy from the Western Sahara because no country currently recognizes the government of Western Sahara as being a legitimate state. However, every country recognizes the Holy See as the government of the Vatican City.

  2. Yes, the Vatican is recognized as it's own city and treated more like a country.

  3. Yes I did know that.

As for Western Sahara, it is not a country.  It is a territory govened by Morrocco, but that authority is disputed.  They have no government, so there would be no embassy.  See the link for a list of state as recognized by the US.

And state is the proper term for an autonomous country when discussing foriegn relations.  The Vatican is such.  A nation is more in reference to a peoples with a common cultural heritage (the Cherokee Nation, and so is the US, and Ireland too).  We tend to use the terms interchangably in every day speech, but official diplomatic talk is different.  That is why Condi Rice is "Secretary of State" not "Secretary of Country."

  4. That's very interesting! The Vatican doesn't have too many embassies however, they only have 6 (incl the US) around the world. And the answer to your question is No, I believe because the Western Sahara isn't a sovereign nation, it's actually a territory. But you could make the argument that the Vatican does and its not a "nation", however the Vatican is a sovereign city state, so it's recognized by the UN as sovereign, therefore it has the capability to have a national embassy.

  5. Did you know we have had an IDIOT living in the White House for almost eight years now ?
