  1. he is not the first one to discover it but it is because of him that is why Europeans became interested in India during the Age of Exploration.

that is why he is considered to discover india.

  2. India has history for past 6000 years, how the h**l Vasco Da Gama claims the discovery, Yes he discovered Sea rout to India, that may be accepted

  3. How can he discover some place that already existed for over 6000 years?

But yeah, he discovered a sea route to India from Europe.

  4. 'With the summer monsoon winds blowing steadily against their square sails, Vasco's ships ploughed steadily eastwards. And in less than a month they saw land. It was India, the land of spices - their longed-for-goal. Vasco had achieved for Portugal what Columbus had failed to do for Spain. On 20th May, 1498, he dropped anchor in Calicut - a town on the west coast of India - and lowered himself to his knees in prayer.'

I never studied or heard of Vasco da Gama in school, however I visited two places in India earlier this year in January called Bangalore and India. It was pretty cool, but I'd never seen Vasco da Gama's name anywhere. Anyway, I found him in this book. I cannot believe I'd never heard of him, he was one of the greatest explorers!

    Anyway, I hope this helped!

What da Gama did for the first time was to sail all the way around Africa to get from Portugal to India, thus cirvumventing hostile Arab communities on the land route. In doing so, he built on the work of more than a generation of Portuguese navigators who, under the direction of Prince Henry, sailed farther and farther down the African coast until Bartolomeo Diaz got to the Cape of Good Hope. da Gama simply continued from there,
