A lot of people say they drink less when they become 21 than they used to when they were underage because you lose the feeling of excitement you get when it's illegal.

  1. umm... no i turned 21 last May and i drink a lot more now. mostly because i didn't have many opprotunities before.

  2. In Australia it's 18 to drink so by the time you have hit 21 you've been drinking for years anyway and then couldn't be bothered.

A lot of the time it is just the excitement of doing something illegal.  Plus as you get older you have more thing to take care of, bills to pay, job to do so you lose the interest in drinking or you get more of an interest to escape real life.

  3. I drank all through high school.  But since I've graduated and got a job and an apartment and bills I never drink.  I'll be glad when I turn 21 so I can buy wine and things like that just to savor the taste.  I don't even care about getting  drunk anymore

  4. No, when I was 21 I discovered the top shelf.  Since then, I've found that I really do enjoy drinking "the good stuff".  I drink more now, because I sometimes drink just to enjoy the flavor of a nice scotch or a fine wine.

Premium beers make me happy two.

  5. You don't really lose the spark when you turn 21. You probably have more responsibilities, i.e. a JOB that you must report to without a hangover.

  6. MAN

    i lost that spark when i became 16 !!

  7. Yeah, shortly after.

When I was underage, I felt like I had to drink and get drunk every chance I got, because it was only so often that I had alcohol and a chance to do so (even though it was pretty often). I remember I made a point of drinking every night during the week leading up to my 21st birthday.

After turning 21, I knew I could get alcohol whenever I wanted. Since I didn't want to constantly, I didn't do it whenever I 'could.' So I did it less. Then I started drinking better beer and enjoying different drinks instead of drinking just to get drunk.

  8. h**l no, I just got started!  lol

  9. No.  That's when everyone take up drinking and clubbing crazily.  Because it's legal and you can buy drink anywhere (grocery stores, supermarket, restaurants, clubs, etc)

  10. Well no not really -first off, the drinking age in most of Canada is 19, with the exception of Alberta and back East I think also, which is 18. But I spent most of my teen years in Europe and there was no minimum drinking age so there never was the association that North Americans seem to have with the obsession to trying to get wasted as quickly as possible, or binge drinking or sneaking around. So over there when you go to a bar, you may be drunk by the end of the night but you're aiming to drink good beer or other stuff, your aim is not to get so wasted you can't remember your name or the name of the woman or man you just shagged in the bathroom at the party or not remember how you got home or what possessed you to get the tat on your ***, or make your way to the hospital to have your stomach pumped due to alcohol poisoning, or find out your sick friend at the party got a ride home with someone who convinced them they were OK to drive and they drove over the side of a bridge instead and killed your friend and left to scratch on themselves.

So honestly I can't say I understand that feeling of excitement from personal experience, as it was never illegal when I was a teenager to drink. Or that whole concept of drinking just because it was not allowed. Getting rid of the drinking age would solve a lot of problems I think, as that excitement you are talking about would disappear. As kids we always tend to do things we're not supposed to. Or try to...without getting caught. If there is none of that association then we won't bother.

  11. i just got more responsible after graduating plus you appreciate flavor more its not about getting drunk.  but mostly coz i had done everything alcohol wise way before 21 so to me turning 21 meant that i could get drunk legally.

  12. Basically.

Personally, though, my parents own a liquor store I work in, so it is like food to a waitress. It makes them (mostly all) annoyed to look at when arriving home, or what have you.

    Just ... thought.

I do enjoy a good Bacardi Superior and Pepsi, though. A wine cooler is lovely, too, every so often.

    Busch beer? Excellent.

  13. honestly, after by 21st, i ended up drinking top shelf.
