  1. Ahah, noo we haven't had any majorr name problems, and we've had 6 cats.

We found one on the side of the road outside Kohl's and Target, so we spent like an hour trying to get him out of the bush by the highway. When we took her home, we didn't plan on keeping him, but he sorta grew on us. We made up all these names and none of them sounded right, but anyway, we found out he had worms so we had to take him to the vet. At the desk, the woman asked "and for the files, what's the cat's name?" and my dad was like "uhmmm.. Small Cat?"

Ahaha we get mail from the local vet addressed to 'Small Cat' now. It's pretty sad.

By the way, at the vet, we found out we were wrong. It's a female cat, we messed that one up haha.

But anyway, I call her Lil Cat or Littles, something cuter than 'Small Cat'.... she doesn't come running to ANY name, aha. We make sounds like kissies or sucking out teeth and she comes running, dunno why. She still hasn't adjusted and it's been like a year.

Our other cats all adjusted within the first week, like the twins, they both ONLY come to their OWN name, you have to call them both in order to get both of them, they never mix each other up aha, it's adorible. They just love the sound of their individual name and will come to that sound only, unless we make like a kissie sound or crack a can of cat food, then they come running. XD

The best was one of the older cats who passed away, he didn't like his name or something, so we called him all these nicknames. He meowed and walked with us when we called him a nickname, but not his full name, he was a cutie.

Another time, we were babysitting a friend's cat, Quippie. That cat hated it when we said her name, we could sit by her and talk to her and she'd be fine, but the second we would say 'Quippie', she would bat at us! XD

  2. no

  3. We rescued a cat once and named him Smithers - but we discovered he'd only answer to Pablo. Also, my cat Millie will only answer to Little Shite.

  4. cats come to what ever name you TRAIN them to come for.  If food is involved they will respond.

So many people think cats just come to kitty kitty kitty... mine don't even pay attention when that is said.

They have names and THEY want you to use them

Possibly the kitty you have has a secret desire (fanticy) to be witch kitty instead of a candy!

  5. I don't think cats really come to a name. It was probably a coincidence that it seemed to have come by another name but they basically do whatever they want no matter what you call them by.

  6. In my experience, my cats have always learned their names. They might not respond to it immediately but it takes some time (and possibly some reinforcement, such as saying the name and then giving a treat). However, every cat I have ever owned was a kitten when my family first adopted it. If the cat is already conditioned to respond to one name it probably could be changed with training/reinforcement.

I think a big part of it is also the tone of voice you use. I could call my kitty jerkface in a sweet voice and he would still respond to it.

And just as a tip, I have read that cats respond especially well to names that end with the "ee" sound (Kitty, Misty, Fluffy, etc)

  7. all of my cats were originally named something else and then it just changes...

my cat called oliver is generally called lib dems now... (?)

and mario has been abbreviated to mal

i'm sure my cats are deaf anyway

they don't respond to anything but the sound of their food bowls
